I loved the shirts but the fabric fell apart.
Usually it's the seams. -

I think it depends how much you wear the stuff tho, I think wearing something 3/4/5 times a week and you get 3 years out it I would be happy. But if they have been worn once a week I'd expect 4 or 5 years or even longer out them....

My Swrve 3/4s are still flawless after 3 years of heavy use
-
• #12605
^ this. I wear my Swrve's pretty much daily, I also rock climb in them as well. I wouldn't say mine are "flawless" but they are handling the abuse like champs.
-
• #12606
I have also found that Swrve 3/4's are excellent for climbing/bouldering in.

ichidien, everyone is allowed their own opinion on rapha, but you might want to refrain from sticking the knife into the person who makes this forum available so that you can stick the knife in.
I'm assuming you are new here and Velocio isn't usually given to laying the smacketh down to those that take issue with him, but looking back through your posts, one could also take issue with your blatant championing of the castelli gabba jersey. So maybe a little he who is without sin, would be appropriate..

Sometimes I do, but there's not much sport in it to be fair.
Feels a bit like hunting with military satellites and a precision ICBM. Pretty boring when you can rain death from the skies.

^ boring for you maybe, but I've got work to be procrastinating with! I need entertainment.

Back to the Rapha shirt.
Only two improvements they could possibly make (and it is a suggestion):
1) Reduce the stitch length from 2mm to 1mm
2) Thinner buttons
-
• #12615
I fucking hate thin buttons.
-
• #12616
Especially when said shorts cost £120.00 , one of their most over priced items in my
opinion , that's selvedge jeans territory .
To be fair, they were only about 40 or 50 quid in a sample sale so three years is bordering on acceptable wear.

Thinner != thin

The YMC shirt I'm wearing today, is lovely, apart from the flimsy thin button.
Although you can get some lovely thin wooden buttons.

Wish they'd remake the pale-blue merino jersey with the pocket on the chest and the wood buttons. LOVED that thing.
-
• #12620
Got the grey one already, but I just received the blue today.

haha jesus 3 years would be a great life expectancy for me. I've gone through most of my rapha stuff in 18 months. For the time spent in them I think that's pretty good value for money and I doubt any other clothing I have would last that long with use like that. The lightweight stuff has been outright shit though

The 3/4 shorts wear out quick though last pair only lasted about 3 years of light use. I wear them all week for commuting/pub/car and bike maintenance then on a Friday I put them in the wash basket. They appear on the clothes dryer sometime during the weekend ready for me to wear again mon-fri the following week. When I go on holiday I tend to use them as walking trousers as well. Like I said, light use and only about 3 years lifespan but I am a slave to fashion so I will persist.
Not sure if this is a troll or not. You wear them 5 days a week, wash them once a week, every week, for 3 years, and say that's light use? Unbelievable.
-
• #12623
don't forget the bit about originally buying them in a sample sale, you missed the bit about the sample sale.
-
• #12624
he only changes his pants once a year so that is pretty light use in his books.

Rapha 3/4 lasted me two years and still look like new. Long trousers three. Bothe picked up in a sample sale.
Swerve shorts fell apart in the crotch department and I don't even cycle anymore when it's not necessary (ie. sober).
Mine held up beautifully for one solid month despite having dark mark on the rear due to the Brooks saddle, so look like they're committed on quality.
