It was between 0 and about 6 today and I just had the softshell over a thin merino baselayer (non-Rapha, sadly). Amazing, as always. Kept me at a comfortable temperature all day and fended off snow and wind too. Anyone who ordered one won't be disappointed.

Didn't believe that a baselayer + shoftshell could suffice for the 5am commute this morning so went with the l/s base layer + l/s merino jersey + softshell.
Lesson learned. Jersey will be stuffed in the back pocket for the ride home tonight.

Is this thread now used for people to state what they wore for their commute and whether they found it comfortable or not?

i wore my faffa baselayer for sleeping in front of the fire on christmas day and it was very nice, though I had to take my merino christmas jumper and new wool scarf off.
better?

I rode a bike for my commute and I found it very comfortable for cycling. doubt I would have managed the full journey without it. can imagine it would be suitable for summer as well so also quite versatile.

Well my ride was 130km and most certainly not a commute, so not necessarily.

Yes, now it is!

I think that's actually the most useful info there is.
The thing holding me back from pulling the trigger on the -25% softshell is wondering how often I'm going to use something that many people rate for -0 degree.

So Santa brought me £150 of Rapha vouchers! This was almost worth the emotional torture of xmas with my family.
But any suggestions on what to blow it on? I tempted by the Italian country jersey, I need another long sleeve top. If not then anyone know what the jeans are like?

Rule no. 5
My softshell gets covered in crap on a daily basis

I've worn mine once this winter, and I run cold

If you can afford it then buy it. Wear it for a month and if you get cooked alive send it back. The discount email makes it clear that the classics guarantee applies.

It's a mental guarantee. I wonder how many actually get returned.

But there are so many variables involved that it is ultimately pointless.

scoted a rain jacket in black for Xmas. Even the bag it came in felt nice. The jacket itself is beautiful, everything screams quality, from the texture to the cuffs to the stitching, and it manages to feel both light as a feather and tough. Once you get past all the black and white photos, large fonts and suffering guff the simple fact is Rapha is cycling crack.
I have other kit from other brands which is good but nothing is as good to pull on as Rapha. Which is almost a shame because it a love/hate thing now with their brand of PR.
By jingo it's good, and with the right discount code, still a little pricey

Someone else who didn't get the right things from Santa:

I recently gave in and bought some Rapha. Not to worry, you won't be seeing it in Richmond Park. I bought three long sleeved merino base layers which were 30% off and therefore not ridiculously pricey. I have to say that I am loving them.

I don't know where this idea that they always do a sale after Christmas came from, as usually the sale is a month or two later.
Last year the sale started on Boxing day.

Oh Clive
It is a slippery slope

OK is there a discount code available or anything? I'm going to pop into the store during lunch and check out this softshell! was contemplating the S.A.S jacket TFG are stocking....
-
• #10622
only thing I reckon might be worth the extra moolah is the classic bibs - would quite like discount on dems
-
• #10623
CLASSICO for the discount code....
-
• #10624
nah, that's only for softshell isn't it?
-
• #10625
can discount codes be used in store?
I wore a jersey and baselayer today and was fine but the softshell is amazing at regulating body temperature - I could probably have worn a baselayer and that and been perfectly comfortable.
I think for anything below 10 degrees, it's perfect.
