Yes, I agree that he should purchase and also later fasten the garment.

I think he should buy one several sizes too small such that he cannot fasten it.

Thinking about a new softshell

As well as a transfer jacket, that could get a bit pricey!

I'm kind of over the Transfer Jacket.. It was just a fling really.. I never really loved her.
The softshell is and will always be a long term commitment..
*transfer jacket is out of stock

I have two friends with those fucking softshells and they are lush indeed. So expensive though, plus I already have about 10 softshell jackets (no exaggeration - I have a problem!).
Why do I only ever use the word 'lush' in reference to Rapha stuff?

I sold my softshell, the arms were too long, it wasn't warm enough, the thumb hole parts are stange and annoying especially with gloves and the really off center zip was also annoying. I'm not sure why it's even called a softshell, it feels more like a jacket than a hoody. The city rain jacket is much better.

You will miss it when you get a dog and have to walk it.

The transfer jacket likens cycling to deep sea diving, or a voyage into hyperspace. Rapha have discovered we're prone to the bends once we step from our bicycles. I'd rather wear a jacket than spend a fortnight in a decompression chamber while my body recovers from the trauma of unimaginable forces following my rides into the unknown.

How does the softshell compare to the rain jacket in terms of warmth?
Not the city rain jacket btw.

Softshell is warmer, thicker, but also better vented so you can manage temps more easily. Rain jacket is a sweatbox.

Rapha Softshell 4 week review.
I bought the Rapha Softshell just over 4 weeks ago in the Royles sale for £167.99. Here's me wearing it for the first time (note the happy face).
I've worn it as my daily jacket since then and i'd say that it's a fantastic jacket for using on the bike. The rear pockets are similar but slightly larger than Rapha jersey pockets for the same size. The headphone routing was tested out for the first time yesterday. Though I'll not use it often it works very well.
As a jacket for walking about, it's a little on the short side at the front (to be expected) and isn't actually that warm (I was told that it was a very warm jacket by a friend who owns). The main thing that makes this not an ideal walk around jacket is that there are no front hand warmer pockets. This means that gloves really need to be worn if walking about with this jacket on in the winter.
Living in Glasgow, the rain performance in various degrees of precipitation has been thoroughly tested. In a light shower, the water beads up nicely and can be brushed off easily once inside. In a heavy shower, the jacket absorbs quite a lot of water but provided the journey isn't too long, dryness under the jacket should be preserved. I have another jacket I use for heavy rain so this was only tested once when I was caught out.
All in all, a good jacket that I'd recommend (preferably bought with a 20% voucher or sale) for commuting, winter training and posing in anything up to light rain. I'd not really recommend it as a 'do everything' jacket or to be used in heavier rain.

this.
But do agree that the thumb/cuff thing is really uncomfortable. My cuffs have also completely disintegrated now. I most ignore them.

this, I only get it out when it's absolutely brassic or when the winter jersey starts to make my arms freeze

You fucking pansies. I only wear the softshell when I make trips into the arctic circle to practice not leaning.
