Yeah! That is worse then my first generation 3G phone (brick)....

I think that's fairly standard for these phones if you actually use them.
One of my mates went to Florida with his and turned off everything bar the simple GSM radio and it lasted practically all week on one charge.
If you have GSM, 3G and Wi-Fi radio's all enabled then it just burns through the battery.
Want to kill one fast? Turn on the GPS as well, oh and maybe use a bluetooth headset whilst you do it.
To be fair if I don't use it much it will last until the evening, but it will be showing a red battery and "Less than 20% remaining" for charge.
I'm on my second one after the first broke, and the battery performance is the same.

If you switch off data roaming, 3g, wifi, blutooth and use it as an actual phone, it lasts for much longer. Its all the gizmos that kill it. As Dammit said, if you;re using the GPS, you dont want to be far from your destination.

ah OK maybe not as bad then as I suspected.

I also have a Blackberry Javelin (work) which replaced a Curve, which in turn replaced a Pearl, adn with every iteration the battery life went down as the gadget count went up.
In my view the iPhone is a shit phone, but makes up for that by being a briliant web access tool, plus lots of the applications are handy, and mobile email is important.
My Blackberry normally lives in my bag, slowly discharging the battery, until I remember to charge it up once a week and dismess the 28 meeting reminders that it is showing by then.

So you'd recommend the iPhone if its not your main phone and you use it occasionally?
-
• #35
I use mine as my main phone- hence the Blackberry going flat in my bag.
I do have the USB charging cable in my bag for the iPhone as otherwise the damn thing runs out of juice.
Using anything without a touch screen now feels a bit outdated, and now that the iPhone has search and copy and paste it is pretty much fit for purpose.
I had been using the Blackberry purely because it could search through email and the iPhone could not, but the latest software update fixed that.
I get very frustrated with my iPhone when it crashes, freezes etc, but it's still close to the top of the class for a smartphone I would say.
Anything that uses Windows Mobile is automatically excluded from consideration due to being, in my experience anyway, massivly shit.

I finally sorted out an Android dev environment. Now I just need to think of something to do. Translation: Nothing will get written because I can't think of anything to do and can't be bothered to relearn java and apply it to android shit so I spend even more time at the pub thinking about an AA app that discourages drinking or something and moo blah bollocks.. think this sleep dep is kicking in.. splat poloink.. roger!

I have a spare battery for my iPhone which comes complete with keyboard, 15inch screen and trackpad and is marketed as a macBookPro ;)
The iPhone exposes the weakness of battery technology.
What we need are miniature nuclear powerstations.
