Buy new spokes, new nipples and a new spoke key. If you don't, your hair will catch fire and your freezer will defrost all your grub.

my fault for asking advice here, but am starting to chase my tail, some reckon its ok to use spokes and nipples, others disagree
is there a search function I could use to help with this?

I suppose at the end of the day it's all about what your budget is.
I'd be happy to reuse spokes, but I'd have a few new nipples beside me in case any have been cross threaded or damaged.

ok nipples and velox are all i need
sweet - where is a good place for nipples in central london (and not pervy alley at the bottom of berwick st)

Spokes are only £15 though, with decent quality rims and hubs I'd have thought that you might as well get new spokes.

I got 64 ACI DB spokes for £15 delivered, are they not up to standard?
-

Last year tho Ed yeah? i.e. 6 months ago when you said you wanted to build those wheels.
Rims still at fiddys?

Good point, they are £25 for the same spokes now.
And yes but I'm picking them up in 2 weeks, I shall then proceed to strip them and polish them up.

Please do not waste your time with Evans in Chalk Farm
I had called up, checked they had velox rim tape in stock and was told they had loads. 2 hours later I am in the shop actually they had none.
I also ask them to sell me some spokes, specify the hub and the rim. Last night tried to build the wheel and the frigging spokes are too long.

Don't trust a shop with your spoke measurements. Unless you're really picky, just use the quoted ERD of the rim, and look up/measure the hub flange width/hole circle (or whatever you want to call them).
I like this one - easy to quickly compare various factors, and it's as accurate as the usual suspects like Rinard et al.

measure twice ask the forum a few times then buy

did you get into work ok with the wheel?
same rims, just changing from open pro to open pro ceramic, so spokes should be the correct length.
