  • Definitely keep it inside somewhere. Best not to leave a nice bike anywhere outside, even well locked.

  • You don't have to make it fuggly, but if it looks a bit "lived in", then that's all the better for it not being so stealable. I haven't had a bike nicked in four years of riding and locking up in London.

Saying that, if you have a bike that doesn't look too expensive and you have two really good locks on it, anyone with any sense will look at the effort to steal vs the value of your bike and move on to the next bike down the rack.

There's several old threads on tips to stop you bike being stolen. None of them will guarantee it, but every one of them will put someone off trying it on with your ride. Stuff like covering your frame in stickers - they either have to try to sell it all stickered up like that, or spend ages trying to get them off. Etc. Etc.

  • a) Get a job somewhere where they've got secure bike storage. I don't even have to lock my bike up at work (but I do anyway).
    b) Get a knackered old racer from eBay for under a fiver and make it into a commuting fixed by spending under a tenner converting it to fixed.

Yeah, adn then hate the commute cos your hubs are shit and eating up a lot of your energy. but at to point A, yes. mine was finally stolen in NYC b/c my company wouldn't let me bring it inside and I didn't know to move it around from time to time. The real problem was that it was locked up for hours and at night, too.

  • London is full of thieving cockney bastards.
    You have been warned.

Thats not very nice is it! cunt.

  • I read it as rather tongue-in-chek, brucy

  • Don't bring your bike - London's shit. It's literally EXACTLY like this:

YouTube - The Fast Show: Chris The Crafty Cockney s03e01

And I literally never use the word "literally" so you must know I mean business.

Said it before but it's just as relevant here.

Get a car or walk everywhere. No one actually cycles in London. Even couriers get taxis.

  • No one on this forum even owns a bike.

  • science fact.

  • FACT!!

  • Best advice. If it's a bike you are going to lock up regularly outside, you want something nondescript and rough , something that blends in e.t.c

Also use some of Tynan's security paste on the bars and seat.
