  • We should all get SJS avatars now, like everybody was getting Specialized avatars the last time around.

  • Ray

TAP OUT to return to the polo threads

no general bike chit chat no talk.

  • This news is just what I'd been hoping to hear. It really has made me the happiest man in the world.

  • We should all get SJS avatars now, like everybody was getting Specialized avatars the last time around.

Oliver, I think Wayne's point has been that SJS need to brush up their logo to comply with the high standards of style that we expect. Until that happens (and personally I believe that they could do no better then ask BDW to design something for them) no one is changing avatars or having the tattoo.

So, you mean Wayne didn't get the gig to redesign the Specialized logo?

  • *Measuring *effective sponsorship question

I notice that if I click through to SJS a source code appears - (src=lfgss)
If however I return to SJS later using the same browser (Mozilla and a new tab) no source code appears.

Does this mean, that should I wish to purchase on SJS (and to ensure that the benefit of the sponsorship is shown) that the best (and only)* way to do this is via any of the links on LFGSS?

(*I notice that the customer registration on SJS provides for a LFGSS referral so I hope that members of the forum newly purchasing will identify themselves this way)

This is actually one of my biggest things about this.

I've no doubt it will be successful, but if the success isn't measured then we risk the sponsorship not going beyond the trial period.

So I'm keen to see it be measured effectively.

I put the src= into the URL as I noticed that is what SJS Cycles do if people visit SJS from Google:
    http://www.google.co.uk/products?q=sjs cycles

So I did the same thing.

My concern is that using referers alone is a bad idea because:
    1) People use https here and that doesn't send referer info
    2) People will revisit SJS after having seen it here and that isn't being counted

This is why the discount code is an effective tool. Offering a discount of 10% provides an incentive to the customer to have their origination counted. If the discount code was "lfgss_sponsorship" then they could measure the number of actual purchases that result from the sponsorship.

Right now though, I'm using the src field provided without fully understanding how that is tracked by SJS, and I'm using my own Google Analytics code to track all clicks that lead to SJS from the banners.

I'll chat to Nick about getting a better measure together.

  • Should the banners be up already? I'm not seeing them through IE or FF

  • Banners appear in Firefox and IE, I think it depends on which part of the forum one is viewing, so I get them in "bikes and bits" but not in other parts.

  • Appearance is dependant on who you are and what you're viewing.

Guest? You get them in all threads, at the top (under first post) and at the bottom (before quick reply).

Member? You get them in all threads that belong to the Bikes & Bits, Classifieds or Mechanics, then you see them at the top (under first post).

They've only been on for 1 day, so have yet to be generated for all threads.

  • can't we create a Uber Member that only sees the best deals on conti tyres?

  • Is there any chance they can be made to open in a new tab rather than being forwarded to SJS in the current tab? I know I could just right click>open in new tab but I always forget.

I can't create a tab, I could create a window though (and if your browser is set to open new windows in tabs then you're sorted).

The only problem with this though is that for those who don't want a new window/tab, they now have no choice.

So really I prefer when I don't force anything to happen in the browser and you as the user get to choose.

  • Fair enough, I'll just have to remember to right click/stop being so fussy.

    New option.

Donors? Donors see what Members see unless they've chosen not to in their Options in their UserCp.

  • This is actually one of my biggest things about this.

I've no doubt it will be successful

please define success - or better still, can SJS define what they consider success to be?

  • Can post impression cookies not be used?

I.e. if someone visits here, they get cookied, and then if they visit SJS in a set period of time - anywhere from 1 day to 30 days - I think 7 is used by a lot of people, this can then be assigned to a "click" from LFGSS.

obviously a post click is probably not as strong a straight click, but it gives a good idea.

Guess this doesn't help the issue with HTTPS though?

  • can't we create a Uber Member that only sees the best deals on conti tyres?

We already have one. He's called hippy and he luuuurves Conti tyres.

  • So if I donated, can I turn the banners off?

    Oh and well done David.

  • So if I donated, can I turn the banners off?

    Oh and well done David.

If you have a current donation, then yes you can hide the banners.

I've actually found them quite helpful and well integrated, but donors can hide them if they choose.

  • Could we have a link to SJS on the home page. I don't often go to Bikes and Bits and want to ensure that I always link through this site.

  • When I re-design the header very shortly, there will be a link from that.

  • Such service ;o)

  • Er...do we really have to have new banners with swear words in them? I try and use this site at work, and I suppose hundreds of others do too. It's not really fair to force the word 'fucking' in a yellow banner over the top of my screen.
