  • I don't believe there ever was a snail in that bottle.

Apparently, many years after the event, she admitted that there wasn't.

  • I have been pondering...

Maybe its possible, we all just have been looking at this issue the wrong way..??

On LFGSS? As if that would happen...

Should I now run for office..?

Not with scissors in your hand.

  • Eh, I think an 8 year old is too young to be responsible for a 5 year old over a mile-long journey. Why would anyone want to put that responsibility on an 8 year old??

  • Grauniad are in the right track with this piece from yest,

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2010/jul/11/cycling-school-child-safety-schonrock

another story today in the E.S (cant get link) is "Met backs children cycling on pavements" 'common sense approach' after Mayors plea in row over safety.

goes on to say Bozza met Sir Paul Stephenson, and he had a nice cup of tea and a biscuit and agreed to back Bozzas approach,
the head of Safer Transport Command said "This is not a carte blanche instruction for all cyclists, but recognises that learning to ride on busy roads in London can be very daunting for young children"

"By taking a common sense...blah blah.."

    so far so sensible :-

"This contributes to making the roads even safer. However if we come across somone causing a nuisance or danger to themselves or others, we will continue to intervene and take appropriate action where necessary"

^ not sure what this quote means exactly, fining pavement riding adults??

making the roads even safer by legitemising pavement riding isnt the way forward,
right, I know hes on about littlies, and we have lots of forum families with littlies that would agree, and yes, Im not saying 'you must get your 8 year old on the road'
but the whole emphasis is again on taking cycling off the roads, when they should be asking why are the roads so unsafe in the first place ie. bad driving, lack of awareness, and the biggest issue in my book, -prioritising the illuson of individual freedom with car use, enabling a ridiculously overpowered method of transport for all, the car, to be cheaper in real terms than many other forms of transport.
