I can't sleep so naturally I made a diy macro lens for my phone and tried to take photos of my eye

It's just a lens from a disposable camera I took apart held up to the lens on the phone, the "making" part was figuring out how to secure it there with crap off my kitchen worktop (a broken plastic fork and sellotape in the end).

We need a picture of this setup.

I don't know anything about lenses or optics so I'm not sure why at 2am I was suddenly confident doing this would make a macro lens.

Respect is due. A quality bodge job, and a great thing to be doing at 2AM when you can't sleep.

If you wanted to make a macro lens [I think] it would have to be concave, not convex... it would also have to have to be made of crystal or glass and have a much much finer polish/finish to it than that.. just an educated guess. Probably have to be quite a bit smaller too come to think of it.

Finally got down somewhere worth testing out my Xperia Z1 at the weekend. Still need to get the hang of one or two settings on it, but really impressed with what it can do (and the depth of field it can achieve compared with my the HTC Sensation I was using previously)
