who called you that? I certainly didn't, and wouldn't, it's not justified,
agreed, i didn't say it was you, but MrSmyth has had a big crack above, and if you go and read the cricket blogs on any of the English newspapers you'll see a fuckton of it. it builds up, man! i don't care if he thinks he's joking, he's still being a fucking cunt.
but I can see how a few people might suggest poor sportsmanship when all we seem to be hearing is how aus were the "better" team "on paper" and the stats this the stats that, the toss, the pitches blah blah. Maybe it's harder for you because losses are not something you are used to, but it happens, 5 test series is enough to find out the best team.
pointing out that australia had more century-makers etc etc isn't being a sore loser, it's noticing that this is a pretty unusual thing, and that you would've expected us to win (ie "how did we fuck that up?"). Post-event analysis is not necessarily complaining (i think perhaps this is something of a cultural difference - Aussies look at losses and try to explain them).
the nature of Test cricket is that small things can make HUGE impacts on a series. I still think we should've won, but we fucked up at crucial times and had a bit of bad luck (with rain and Rudi Koertzen). we dominated for 14 years because we rarely missed those opportunities, but this time we missed a few of them. we didn't lose by much though. I don't think we need to make massive changes, just get a few more games into our players.I don't mind losing (we have an inexperienced team, we're going to lose more series). I didn't mind losing to South Africa or India, they are good sides and their supporters don't use cricket as an excuse to belittle me or my country. I hate losing to England though, because some of the bullshit i've heard from people has been unbelievable. It's not the cricket that I mind, it's the crap that goes with it from people that only watch every four years and don't have a clue what they're talking about, they just pick up on the "Aussie bashing" vibe. Fuck that for a joke.
so shut up, you useless convict prick and sore loser ;)
fuck off back your can of wife-beater, you toothless fucking chav.
Australia 5-0 in 10/11, then.

And we get called bad sports. What a fucking joke. You do your country no credit, mate.
well i wasn't in any of the crowds at the athletics or cricket so i wasn't doing my country a disservice. i certainly wouldn't boo anyone unless it was for not walking, backchat to the umpire, moaning about a substitute fielder or bowling the last ball underarm.
what i do is meaningless, it's the behavior of sportmen, politicians and celebrities that reflect on a country.
all this thread is doing now is proving how easy it is to wind up australians. if england had lost we would have been a bit pissed off, moaned about selection and players doing that Atherton staring into space method of playing cricket.
Not a collective finger pointing at everything but being beaten by the better team.
shifting blame just reinforces the whinging stereotype. if we had lost there would have been a picture of the team with turnips for heads in the sun and we would be saying "fuck we are so shit at cricket" not fishing for excuses instead of facing facts and having an introspective look at the failure, that is something the English psyche has had a fair bit of practice at and are are very good at navel gazing after the event.
something the australians could learn from us, after all we learned how to win from you. -

i said we were beaten because we lost the crucial sessions! we collapsed twice and couldn't bowl england out enough! that's why England won, because they won the crucial sessions!
it's as simple as i can put it. how is that whinging?? how is that fishing for excuses??
you're fucking kidding me.

• #708
do you think the better team won?
-
• #709
do you think the better team won?
both teams could play better cricket. as i said before they will both need to improve if they are going to win away from home. south africa are the team to beat.
but asking if "the better team won" is a bit of a non question. the winning team were better than the losers. unless of course you put faith in statistics and 'if onlys'

England performed better when it mattered, so as much as it pains me to say it, yes.
There was fuck all between the teams though, they were both horribly inconsistent.

if your quote above was indicative of the media reaction then there is no whinging, the reality was rather different.
the reaction from australian media/blogs and some of the posts on here was:
beaten by SA, the stats were this that the other, the pitch was blah blah blah, the umpires bad decisions etc etc.edit: you should re-read my post. it's obvious i was referring to "a collective finger pointing" from the australian media not an ex-pat on a cycling website :-)

you have highly achieving sportsmen/women (i refuse to use the word 'great' as that suggests some humility and lack of conceit) because australia has little else to be proud of. no culture and little of achievement outside sport. what culture it does have is not supported as the indigenous people and their culture has been suppressed, most of the cultural and literal intelligentsia have the foresight to leave to achieve recognition and success, i'm still trying to figure out what talents the resident forum antipodeans are trying to export to the mother country?
nasty and untrue.
well i wasn't in any of the crowds at the athletics or cricket so i wasn't doing my country a disservice. i certainly wouldn't boo anyone unless it was for not walking, backchat to the umpire, moaning about a substitute fielder or bowling the last ball underarm.
holier than thou.
some serious twists of logic here. the prejudice and lack of understanding behind these comments is so transparent it's laughable.
you call australians arrogant and lacking in humility, then slate us for never producing anything of value other than sports stars? you rip on our entire country, in a way that doesn't even begin to resemble the truth, just to get a wind-up? what sort of neo-colonialist bullshit is that? it's hypocrisy of the finest quality. but we're the ones who need to be taken down a peg and taught how to lose gracefully? get fucked.
and then to claim some moral high ground loosely related to not walking, backchat, claiming catches or whatever else? how many examples of this sort of thing were there from England players during this series? claimed catches, dodgy appeals, refusals to walk, physical intimidation of batsmen... would anyone like a mint? i'm not saying Australia is perfect, but England is just as bad and always has been: you're talking out your arse to support your warped prejudices.
your comments right through this thread do you a disservice, and your spiteful attitude reflects poorly on your country. good day, sir.
