seriously, my first post got flamed when i joined here (it was "i have so much money to spend on a bike, what should i get" type thing)

I survived and am still here, I also learned pretty quickly from my mistakes (some may dispute this). You learn pretty quickly that this is a fairly robust place in terms of the content and also what can look like to people having a spat can frequently be close friends having a laugh

being grilled here is not the worst thing, but if it puts you off then possibly this is not the home for you, there are heavily moderated forums for more sensible/sensitive souls

also if we were always nice to people my popcorn thread would be empty

Fair enough if you're frustrated with the nursery and don't want to read the advice VB wrote. Human nature, innit.

But you should bother to read a couple of threads and get a feel for the place before posting your inane question, and if you don't then flaming / derailing is deserved. I lurked for several days, and when I had a question I searched, then asked, and still had the piss taken. Exhilarating stuff.

that's the thing, though.. you make it sound like 'if you're not in to the pisstaking/etc, then you don't belong on the forum'. that's not right.

it makes the place less open, imo.
