bill bailey,
brendan burns,
paul foot,
simon munnery,
oh, and cos its London----mark thomas
that should keep you going for a bit. -

sorry i have to say tim minchin is well shit. god i wanted to kill myself when i saw him (by accident) at union chapel. was there to see billy bleach - 'lets play sea elephants...', grass is fucking brilliant.
bruno-wise, it does look shit, but haven't seen it so can't tell- nor has anybody else on here by the sound of it. -

thomas and burns i like. will check out the others.

Hmm, they seem to be the usual fodder who get asked to appear on crap panel shows...

I saw it at Empire cinema in L' Square. The premiere. Got free tix from somebody who works there.
Only seen a bit of a Bruno episode before. Wasn't expecting much, but was surprised how funny it was. Never done a Borat impression or repeated any of the quotes from that film. So far have not repeated any line from Bruno so far and don't intend to, or copy the accent. Wouldn't be a problem if I did though, cos copying an accent isn't racist.
BTW - I haven't seen or heard of Tim Minchin before but I think he's shit too.

funnily enough he's Australian, is it a co-incidence that your avatar is Coopers beer from down under? you might like him, but he could be considered a bit too wordy.
theres absolutely no accounting for taste after all. -
• #91
You saw the coopers bottle top and therefore assume I'm Australian and would therefore like an Australian comedian, cos all Aussies are the same? Rather racist.
My comment about Tim Minchin was sarcasm. I may well think he is too wordy if/when I saw him. But I wouldn't assume he is beforehand. I wouldn't claim to to have a 'hatred' for him even if I didn't find him funny though.

yeah I did mean 'western' as in english speaking countries
the way its going to be massive in western countries, that can laugh about african babies being swapped for i- pods because thats what theyre worth.
the way that it demeans every 'issue' it raises, lowering to lowest common denominator humour, whilst cynically playing up the edginess to easily shocked people who find swearing/sex uncomfortable.
also, the hype machine bugs me, the way critics will just love it.
Jason I think you are missing the point... The whole point of Cohen stuff is that he is showing up stupid people/bigoted people for who they really are. Like this guy ....

Same with Ali-G, the character is based on the satire of modern commercial hip hop and in particular Tim Westwood and Puff Daddy/P Diddy. Ali-G character is dead on the middle class White Kid who desperately wants to be some sort of kick arse "Black Gangsta".
Bruno is exactly the same ... My sister goes to the clothes show, watches "America's Next Top Model" and buys Magazines like Heat and Closer. Having read some of the bollox that is associated with that world. Bruno pulls off the satire perfectly (probably a satire on Gok Wan and the like).

lucas mate, you just reposted something from last page, i know we rode a hard 50 miler just now but wake up.
Yeah agreed Ali G was original at that time- and I liked it personally because of the U.K relevance.
I totally understand the point, what gets me is that, yes, hes now done it again in exactly the same way as borat, different cultural references, same schtick,
furthermore as I said earlier, the way that it gets repeated ad nauseum by dullards who dont even get the point, just think its 'cool' really bugs me, but as the astute observer above said, I need to cheer the fuck up,
hugs,

m.fI didn't read the thread until I posted it... I didn't wanna ruin my train of thought at that time.
I do agree that people who repeat it without really getting it are tiresome, but it is like anything that becomes popular.
BTW the ride today was awesome ... sweated off my Hangover.... My Dad still looked as hungover as he did this morning.

It's funny because he speaks in a really gay way. But it's not homophobic because that's how gays really speak. Almost as funny as Mr Humphries saying, "I'm Free!"

Yeah. It's obviously a formula that works financially, but critically? I like people falling over humour as much as anyone at times, but sometimes I prefer to have to work at it a little.....
What would Bill Hicks say about Sacha/Bruno? ;)
