Train.
Cool, is everyone staying in Brighton for a while or heading straight back soon as the trains are available?
-
• #79
getting a train back to london with possibly up to 30 bikes could be fun...
I might stick around and visit some friends (used to live there) and then maybe cycle back the next night. -
• #80
Martin, people will do a variety of different things once we get there. I might well stick around for a bit, have a bite to eat, then cycle back if I'm not too tired. Others will want to get the train straight back (which I actually don't recommend unless you have to get back, as it's a little anticlimactic). Caffs open quite early in Brighton and we can usually get a decent breakfast in.
CYOA, train carriage of cycles on a Sunday is never the slightest problem. There are trains about every 15 minutes and it's extremely unlikely that anywhere near 30 people end up on the same train. Besides, most rolling stock has fairly good bike spaces, and I think you can get about 10-15 bikes on one train easily. No worries on that front!

Hi y'all
as discussed with Oliver on Saturday night I'm up for this ride!
I'm away until Friday though so if some kind soul could stick me on the list I'd appreciate it!
I'll be doing 69" fixed (my only bike).
Looking forward to it!

anyone wanna ride back?
Yes, I probably will.

anyone wanna ride back?
Last time I went to Southend, I didn't want to ride back.
But that time I had to luggage a few things that weighed me down, and also my tires wern't in a fantastic condition for performence/durability.
But I've got newer, harder & thinner tyres now.And I hear going to Brighton is no where near as bad as going to Southend. (Through Essex that is)
So maybe, I'll see how I feel =)
-

The road to Brighton is much hillier than to Southend, Martin. Don't let that put you off, though. Even if you don't make it all the way back, there are plenty of bail-out points in the shape of railway stations.

(The last time around Dropout and I went back to Gatwick instead of going all the way back. It was still a lot of fun.)

I'll still try and come then, I think I'll be alrite.
If I were to do Southend again, I'm sure it'll be a lot easier for me since I've been training oftenish after that event.
The worst thing about that Southend ride is my arse was in pain & the roads looked like they would never end.I've noticed such a performence/stamina boost lately.
I compared myself now to when I first started cycling earlier on in the year.I'm quite happy with the difference =)
Anyway, this ride will be a good laugh.
I'll bring a Camera.

Thanks for sticking me on the list!
Quick question, any chance I could buddy up on a lock with someone on Sunday? I'm not sure what you guys will be doing for locks but I'd rather not drag the Abus chain all the way to Brighton if I don't have to.
What do you guys normally do?
-

Me too. :(
Got a big heavy Oxford chain to lugg around. Last time to Southend it didn't really help. My arse was killing me.I'd rather not take it, but I have no other option...

Got a big heavy Oxford chain to lugg around.wtf are you talking about? you don't need to bring a lock on a ride.....
most of the time in London I don't even carry a lock - the best way to avoid having your bike nicked is not to leave it alone

29.My first ride with you guys. Just happened to see you all on the 2009-08-22 Sat - The Bridges VII - East to West in Putney. Kindly enough someone shouted out to join in.
That night alone I did approx 54miles. I was heading to Kingston at the time.
I should be fine for this ride. I recently attented the London to Southend event in July, for the British Heart Foundation. So this will be my 2nd Major Cycle.
I'll try and confirm if I'm attending or not.
