So generic noise or not, it's got to be worth it...
obviously if you piss off the neighbours and your frame gets bent as retaliation the viewpoint might change.
I wonder how long a bike would last in Brick Lane with a noisy lock on it...

Would be the ultimate test.

We should do a set up - lock a nike up with one in a hotspot and see what the toerags reaction is

Nike?
Toerags?There's a joke there, surely.

Classic Air Jordans would do the trick. ;)

Although the Xena's as sensitive as an angry teenager with acne, I'm still happy I've got it. I wouldn't use it in locations where it's likely to get knocked a lot, but since it's not 'that' heavy it's transportable enough for me to carry around just in case I ever think the bike's vulnerable. If I leave it for longer than an hour its a necessity, and like finger_jockey says, if a thief tries to have a go at it he better be wearing ear plugs or suffer from tinnitus cos that is one unpleasant noise...

Just got one of these from @Re-cycled. Its on my toe clip in the communal hallway downstairs. Getting it off should be a larf.

I have the XN15 Xena. If you attach it at 9 o'clock or 3 o'clock, it's super sensitive. If you attach it at 6 o'clock, it isn't, and you have to give it a good old jiggle to get it to go off (ooh err etc).
Nice design. Recommended (for scooters, weighs a good kilo and a half I reckon, can't be arsed to bike with that on top of a mini d.

Just an idea, if you can use it on your chainring, take the batteries out?
Thieves can't ride off with the bike and with any luck they'll realise it's an alarm and leave it alone in the first place not wanting to risk an ear bashing. Saves you having to worry about it going off all the time/in your bag/ears.
Most of those CCTV cameras you see are dummies you know...

^ Rather nice idea there, Fox. I like. My offer of a free Xena to anyone wants it no longer stands. Cheers.

God how I wish I could turn back time to before I bought this thing.
I have had the Xena for about a month and although it has worked as intended in terms of its lock/alarm function the keys are quite flimsy. A quick look at them next to, say, a kryptonite key should convince anyone of that. This morning the key broke inside the lock!!
I now have a bike that I cannot move anywhere and any attempt to fiddle with the busted lock sends the alarm blaring. I've found that pressing a towel towards the Xena muffles the sound quite well (so there goes the safety aspect of it), but of course it is impossible to get anything done as I only get a second of two of fiddling before the alarm is off for the umpteenth time.
I've tried getting the broken bit of key out with pliers and tweezers with little luck. And with the alarm going whenever I touch the bike it is not realistic that I will carry it on my arm and bring it to a lock smith for example. If one of the Kryptonites had acted up I guess I'd resort to patiently hacksawing the thing off, but using the hacksaw where I have attached the Xena can do quite a bit of damage to other bike parts.
My concern about the alarm going off is not only about my own ears, but the fact that I've got my bike inbetween blocks of flats and I am already pissing off my neighbours royally. What the hell do I do now?

wrap the lock in a towel and tape it up, bring to a place where you annoy as few as possible, hacksaw away! or to a locksmith, though i guess it would look quite suspicious

good news for me, I now have the offending little fucker off. although that is also bad news for us all: if a muppet like me could manage then so can your average tea leaf with a few minutes on his hands and relative seclusion.
knowing that this is a public forum I won't blurt out with the details right now, but this should perhaps become part of the discussion? -

Going to give this thread a bump as I'm in the market for an alarm at the moment.
The experience of this model appears to be patchy to say the least! Anyone found a successful, not too sensitive solution for alarming bikes? -

A little searching round has thrown up this:
Go to the ebay auction and watch the video (small box at the top of the listing) Seems the warning beeps before alarm are good. Also I think it'll fit round some more bike parts than the disc specific ones mentioned before. Might have a punt.
When it is in alarm mode, if there is any slight wind movement the alarm will not sound, the control unit can recognize tampering and innocent movement i.e. wind conditions, if tampered with, the lock will sound 3 ear piercing bleeps and automatically increase sensitivity, if tampered again within 1-30 seconds just even a slight movement or any foreign metal contact on the shackle will immediately sound a 10 second 110db alarm.. After the 10 second alarm has sounded the lock will be in a high alert state (maximum sensitivity) for 30 seconds and will repeat the 10 second alarm if tampered again and thereafter will drop sensitivity one level at a time after it has sensed no movement for 30 seconds. This unique technology ensures no false alarms,

Just seen that listing is for a lot of 3 locks too! so they're cheap!

Yeah, l off-loaded my xena - right palaver going off at the most inopportune moments.
Group buy? Except l'm in Manchester. -

what an amazing video. looks like a good lock though

I had one on my gun locker (as additional security) but it ate batteries - six at a time - every six months or so but probably because it was on and armed all the time.
If you search Amazon (UK) for "alarm lock" you will turn up their bike locks as well.

So i realy want a alarm lock and heard the xena is to sensative, and that new Kabrus padlock seems to have a better alarming system. but from reading the review on amazon its has not gone down well. so i just wanted to know what one to get, is there another lock which has the a simaliar system to the Kabrus or are they all like xena. and is the Kabrus as bad as the reviews.

Bumb
:-( nobody answer?... -

If you have looked at the Locks That Work list, you will see that several locks look very similar to it. And that means
they are probably made in China, and called in some cases, the JBSL01. The Kabrus version is two or three times as
expensive as some of the others. They appear generic.http://www.sglocks.co.uk/heavy_security.html

Ashe
Please don't expect people to read the perfectly sensible thread on locks, that would be an asshole thing to do as they are too fucking stupid to think to use the cunting search.
They then might feel intimidated by you, and even more so when they realise you were the one to create the mighty lists that they were too retarded to use.
A female-female space docking exercise has just been completed.
Agreed. And therefore I wish I could set my alarm to respond to 'kryptonite cutting force' levels of shaking, rather than 'featherlight touch' which is the current level.
