  • @swmlon I got one from Wiggle but it seems to be discontinued. Challenge branded ones go for around £15 or if you search ebay for "tyre seating tools" they start from around £7.

I'm happy with mine. I only break tyre levers removing tyres now.

  • Thanks for the info, I'll hit up ebay later and compare to AliX for price.

  • Anyone after some Vittoria Corsa graphene 2.0s - I currently have some for sale here

  • What's the forum thought process on these. I've got family coming in August from Poland so wanted to take advantage of EU purchase.

  • They’re quick and I found the grip pretty good even in the wet (although not sure that’s the consensus). Quite prone to picking up small cuts and punctures but sealant always solved this

  • Why would I buy okay tyres when I can buy good tyres?

Because if you ride big, boring miles, you don't want to spunk all your money on flash tyres.
I also hate fixing flats so I will train on more durable tyres and save the race day shit for... you guessed it... posing at a cafe... no, wait, I mean, err racing.

  • I've got these but I prefer the Speedlevers.

  • How far has he ridden? At least two of my TCRs were ridden with zero flats and I weigh 2xLachlans.

Are these tubed or tubeless and are you sure it's not just one flat that Rapha crew covered from 27 different angles to add to the epicness? :D

  • Yeah, bigger volume for starters. 28mm or 32mm GP5000 would be super fast, 28mm Pro Endurance are more durable.

  • 4,061km in 13 and a bit days. I’m sure this will be representative of my winter mileage.

He’s running tubes which is probably where he’s going wrong

  • That's about TCR distance. I ran tubes. I'm much heavier and I was riding on much worse roads (and grav).

So either the tyres are shit, he's bad at avoiding road litter or he's bad at fixing flats :)

  • Looks like I can get 28 or 32 gp5000 for cheap as they’re being superseded by a tubeless compatible version, with the older ones now reduced.

I’ve also been offered a new 10sp group set and wheels off a pal who felt embarrassed on my behalf when he saw the set up I was running (8sp shifters and 9sp cassette is a real highlight, which I have no idea how it happened). So speed gains to be made all around!

Also, I’m definitely in the 2x Lachlan weight camp, so extra volume will help no doubt.

  • I've got these but I prefer the Speedlevers.

It seems that the current version is the Crank Brothers Speedier Lever. This guy makes it look very straightforward using the Speedier Lever with his method:

At the moment I'm trying Granite Talon tyre levers which assemble to become a chain master link tool, as Panaracer Paselas go over my rims by hand without difficulty (as long as the bead is massaged to the centre of the rims on the section of tyre already installed).

  • That Crank Brothers giant will never fit in rear pocket.

  • 8sp shifters and 9sp cassette is a real highlight

A spare cog just to be safe ;-)

  • Panaracer Paselas

    Fucking preach it

  • The clunking, grinding and chain jumping while out the saddle is less safe however 😅

Chain jumping when giving it the big guns while trying aero extensions was also “entertaining”.

  • Yeah, whatever those ones are called. I only carry them during ultras. They're good when your hands are trashed or it's super cold.

  • Looking for new rubber since my GK 38mm slicks disintegrated during a race. Had ridden them about 1200km before and then 1000 km into the race the thread was bare and all kinds of fuckery had to be improvised to make it to a town where i could source a new pair. Would still like something with a similar width with soft and nice side walls.

Exactly the same thing happened to another racer running 26mm exposures.

I’ve been loving the GKs thus far, but kind of lost faith in them now.

Been eyeing the 32mm GP5000 but would ideally want something a little wider.

  • Double

  • think he is running corsas of some sort. so...

  • I've been on Strada Bianca 36c for a few years and besides that one warranty upthread they've been great. Thin flexy sidewalls even in the cheap version, but never had a severe cut.

  • Sounds good!

  • Michelin power tubeless are excellent and come up super wide. My 32s came up at 35c. I got close to 5000 winter and commuting miles from them without a single puncture. They're fast, durable and comfy.
