700c 42mm road tires - just for commuting so don't need to be fancy tires. Recommendations?

Pretty new, maybe 200km done? I'll try dropping the pressure and see how they feel!

Conti Sport Contact II. So cheap and yet a brilliant tyre

Tyre width is a well covered and boring debate. As such I'll just ask a question. Should I put 25c (28mm irl) or 28c (31mm irl) Continental GP4000sII tyres on my CAAD12 Disc? I have plenty of frame clearance. Concerned that the 28s will feel and look comically large. I also reckon the 25s will stretch a little and end up closer to 30mm anyway. Thanks guys, I love you all.

I have 28c Schwalbe Ones on mine and they're the perfect size for me. I'm not sure what they come out at in reality

Whatever size (between the two) that achieves the least 'balloon' effect will be most aero.
Then you need to weigh in if you want the extra comfort and cornering ability of the larger tyre.
FWIW I have 30c tyres on my 'road' bike that come in at 30mm exactly on 22mm internal wide rim.

28c. 25c will look comically small.

found the wired version for £10 in 42c - any reason to plump for the folding version?

Is that a 700x32 brown wall TLR Strada Bianca?
-

Consider the picture below. It has a 25c or the front and a 28c on the back. I'm not sure what my point is. Hmm.

if you dont have a bike with fat tyres in your life get 28 otherwise get 25

those hoods don't look right
-
• #5691
Agreed. Not my bike.
-
• #5692
I think mine are wired. Still very supple and roll decent for such a cheap tyre. Planet X often have them for £8 but you may wish to avoid buying there

In other words, either will be fine, there is no correct answer. It's just slightly different.
-
• #5694
Yep

28, it's glorious. I have it on my road bike atm and am subject to envy from pals. They do look big but idgaf
Also roll better for a given pressure than 25s

Are the WTB byways still around, seem impossible to get these days?
-
• #5698
One of German shops says they should be available in September: https://r2-bike.com/WTB-Tire-Byway-275-650b-Road-Plus

Cheers, I guess everyone will be getting them then.

What are the best 650b road tyres?
had a similar issue with 32mm at 60psi tbh
