Well I rock a 25mm zaffiro on the front, I'm loathe to stick anything more streamlined on there as when the front goes it goes hard.
Like I say I've gone for a 23mm folding ultra gatorskin on the back now, as I got through the rubino in roughly a months regular riding. I should be getting an armadillo next time then?

i'm getting some schwalbe blizzards tomorrow (not the sport ones). i'm hoping they'll be good.
-
• #54
Theyre grippy, i rode them on my ss last year. Quite soft though.
-
• #55
well, i got 3 punctures yesterday on a ride along the canals to greenwich park. don't want to repeat that. grippy sounds good for winter months too. asm, you coming to brighton? and if not, why not??

9 am in the morning? are you kidding me?! Also i actually have work to do & the way i felt after the hallowe'en ride doesn't fill me with confidence and i only rode about 37 miles (including getting to and from the ride), and my saddle hurts me in ways i didn't believe were possible. All that aside i may still turn up!

asm, no, 9am - i am *serious*. well, MA3K|³| is, i think. and the only (best) way to get over saddle-soreness is to persevere: no pain, no gain - is what they say. maybe you should use some of that lube you gave to chandra ;-)
and 37 miles, how did you figure that out? do you have a speedo thing on your bike? i need to get one.... although rapidly running out of handlebar space. -

For sheer indestructability (yes that's a word) armadillos are like riding with a circular tank wrapped around your rims.
A chap at Condor was all Gatoskins Gatorskins Gatorskins when I asked his input and after three punctures in six weeks I remain unconvinced.
That said, Armadillos are heavy, ugly, and perhaps not the grippiest buggers in the world. But skidding through all that kevlar is nothing if not a giggle. -

What he said ^ about Armadillos. They don't ride amazing but eight months now and still no pnctures.

ok, so advice needed please...
i want to get some yellow tyres with a central black stripe, kevlar protection. i also want to get them asap - and definitely before the weekend, as i'm doing the lfgss l2b bike ride on sunday - i'm currently riding on stock bontrager tyres that came with my lemond fillmore and they're driving me crazy: i got 3 punctures in a day recently on a ride along the canal to greenwich and they're generally not keeping up with my london riding, despite adequate pressures, etc.
i've been planning on getting the schwalbe blizzard tyres which are exactly what i want, but i can't find them in stock anywhere, nor am i having any luck online. they're about 15 quid each. so, i need some recommendations on another tyre that would be similar and also meet my requirements in terms of colour/protection/price and that i will be able to get by the weekend in order for me to put them on the bike prior to the ride. i.e. which tyre and where to buy? thanks.

doCA, have you tried velorution for the blizzards? i am riding plain black blizzard sports that i bought from there earlier this year. done over 5000 miles on them. two punctures. the rear is starting to suffer now but boy do they make a nice zippy sound when skidding. i don't think the coloured blizzards look very nice but that is personal choice

Hi Dr!
Rubino from Wiggle - pair for 16 quid.? -

£16.99 pair: Sadly the Pros are out of stock, but you can 'get the look'.

Another vote for the rubinos - I've had them on both my bikes for the past year or so, I've had 1 puncture and that was caused by a builder taking a staple gun to my wheel while it was parked.
-
• #66
kool, thanks guys! i just tried velorution - 12.50 each but they had every colour except yellow. so next bet is the rubinos (thanks for the link provenrad), however will pass by lbs again to check size as they told me 700x23 but my current tyres say 700x25. i'm not so bothered whether they are folding or not (i.e. the pros) as i'm only planning on putting them on and leaving them, plus stompy gave me a rubber tyre patch as he picked some up after the docklands ride! plus the price at wiggle seems unbeatable :)

ps, am planning on painting the bike yellow, hence the colour requirement. and i was down cavendish yesterday, db, so i know what they've got in stock.

I've got a yellow bike. I narrowly avoided the urge to put yellow rubinos on it :D

23s or 25s will fit your rims. Personal preference really. Unless you're racing, or a whippet, I'd probably choose 25s for round town riding. Slightly bigger contact patch can help in the wet, you can run them 10-20psi lower which irons out bumpy roads, and according to some sources, rolling resistance is slightly less.
Then again, might be worth trying 23s (as you've not ridden them) to get some personal experience :)

sounds like 25s then, what with winter and all that coming. will ask the guy in the lbs why he recommended 23s tho. thanks for all the help!
-
• #71
25s!!! Horror of horrors! :)
My 1.5" slicks on the GT are so damn cushy.. :)
-
• #72
ok, well i am now sporting the new rubinos, freshly pumped to 125psi and ready for brighton ride tomorrow :) thanks to all for the advice, especially provenrad for the link - that was a total bargain! including 2 spare inner tubes, so actual cost per tyre was in the region of 6-7 quid, methinks.

I've just pumped my 700x23 Vred Tricomps to 100psi. Didn't fancy a ride sponsored by Viagra :p
-
• #74
If I rode 100 psi, I'd be on the rims ;-)
-
• #75
You're lighter than me stompy and I ride 100psi. It's the magic number.
go for a 28 ml randonneur for tha back...and what ever 20 or 23 front, or 28 front and back.. season depending
. vittorias..good for brakeless in town .
altho i would probably go for 23's for longer distance..(dunwich or brighton)..front and back conti, gatoz hardcase 23's
.i.love randonneur's, they are 7ply...
