A pal is looking for the best value for money, durable, commuting road tyre.
He sent me marathons but I want to direct him away from them so they don't just kill his new-found enjoyment of commuting.
Any suggestions? -

About to head off on a 2 week tour of Scotland. Mostly sustrans routes
I have 35c compass Bon Jon and 41c knards at my disposal. Neither seem particularly tough but not had issues.
Which should I go for or should I splash out for something sensible and armoured instead? -
• #4808
I've had many punctures with Knards, now running gravelking sk 40mm, no problems so far.

I've got a pair of GK SKs not currently in use. Lemme know if you want them.

Where are all the 32cβ35c semi slick gum walls at? (Gravelkings, Strada Bianca Open, Shikoro, Gran Bois etc.). Everything is out of stock βΒ really struggling to find new boots and don't want Paselas.

Hi Ed
Good to meet you and Liz, bikes look rad. Hope the trip goes well; Highlands are a special place to be.
Cheers

They're not new, they were old race tyres.
I didn't end up using it and had quite enough trouble from rim tape failure and beads not seating. Karma for no drama during TCR4... -

New gravel kings are out. The sidewall is too dark IMO

sounds great thanks

Have you seen them in the flesh?
I've got a pair of 38c SKs on order. Don't think I even mind "brown" wall over tan wall.

I have switched to 25c greywall Corsa G+ for winter and tanwall for summer. They wear a bit faster than the open pave but performance is good.
In the past I retired my slightly worn open pave's to my fast commuter and switched to 28c Gk's, just a bit slower compared but noticeable better lifetime.
Will probably switch to GK's for foul winter weather, G+ for anything else.

I thought they were meant to wear less!

Yes, they are poo brown.

Are GravelKing SK 40mm tyres good for loose surface (snow/sand/etc.) ? WTB Nano? Knards?
The bike is Surly Crosscheck.

Just remembered your request - they come out at 42.5-43mm, so bang on. That's on 20mm internal rim
