The pope is an apologist for an organisation that systematically abuses and covers up the abuse of children.
His opinion on anything can get to fuck, unless it is to say that he has decided to kill himself.
That particular pope is dead.

Can not rep you enough ^
In all seriousness Str, please read this
and DancefloorTerrorist's post and give it some thought. They're impartial, I'm defensive. They have both outlined the subject as well as can be on a fixie skidder forum and I truly hope that a little bit of their wisdom has gone through.
I actually would like to. Perhaps Str can come. Srsly.South West beers will one day see my arrival (as weirdly enough I used to drink in that pub all the time!)

On the note of parenting influence on sexuality- the Pedatric[sic] Academy of America clearly stated- in a study repeatedly backed up throughout the world-
there is no scientific evidence that abnormal parenting, sexual abuse, or other adverse life events influence sexual orientation
I think its utterly unrealistic/unbelievable to think that sexuality is not 'pre-determined'.
One of the studies that has always stuck in my mind is the birth order study.
Another is the biological/physiological differences between heterosexuals/bisexuals/ homosexuals. (Including a report that gay men have bigger penises then straight ones- thats by the by though)A good start for anyone interested in the complex genetic and other factors currently being argued about within this area is the wiki article- which is well written and a good primer:
[ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biology_and_sexual_orientation[/ame]I also think that the Kinsey scale of sexuality is probably the most acceptable means of modelling sexuality, without labelling- especially within a scientific context.

Incidentally the only reason for me posting was Ed's comment about hearing impairment.
When I have more time I will read up on the genetics of hearing impairment- because I'm not sure about the truth of that statement- certainly it is true that more hearing impaired children are born of hearing parents, but I haven't had enough time to read whether that is simply due to sheer numbers, and I have other stuff I should probably be reading at the moment. -

What does seem to be clear enough, however lamentably, is that homophobic sentiments are rarely changed.

Hang on - spreadsheet?
spotter has just excelled himself.
The spreadsheet of AIDS, I can't stop laughing, why is that so funny?
I was on my phone, autocorrect got me. But I imagine he does have a spreadsheet, to be evil on such a large scale you do need to be organised.

It can be said to junkie parents, alcoholics, violent and so on.Fucks sake. Wish I had realised how much of a prick this guy is befor selling him a saddle. Str, Please close your paypal dispute. Really?
I am sure that I've read something somewhere that says sexuality can shift depending on your environment - ie all male/female environments will make you more likely to switch while you're in them.
My gut feeling would be that it is more likely to be a range of factors, on the basis that if it was simple the issue would have been laid to rest a while ago.... but that's exactly scientific.
Interesting wiki tho.

Yes, really, the environmental factors- from what I've read- seem to be antenatal/ or very early childhood- stages at which gene expression is going crazy to allow development/differentiation - so the environmental involvement would at most be an additional effect to the 'predisposition'.
- a bit of perspective- I haven't really been following updates since 2006ish when there was a huge amount of work published- and I was a bit of a genetics geek.

+1 to Eyebrows
I don't believe it's pre-determined (one of my mates was the biggest womanizer ever when i was younger. he got bored and went the other way), but an interesting article all the same. Also, our genders are not fully established till later on in the womb are they not?

t's all about the perineum innit
Ha!
About your mate- a psychiatrist might say the womanizing was a projection of unsatisfactory pressure to conform to sexuality 'norms'.
But then psycho-babble is interesting to say the least.(have a friend in a similar situation- not a player when younger though- but they say that they were never happy/ could never get that 'connection')

My old boss at work was a right slag with the ladies, now he's all about the bumming, he said as well that he never felt right with the women but pulled a lot as he was trying to find one he felt right with, turned out he needed cock.
