  • that too... who the fuck is TS is confusing, but without mr blobby on a polo bike is just sillyness

  • why is everyone shortening their forum names. its damn comfusing!

crumb, you are young and dumb

    everything is baffling to you

    we know your academic history

(insert emoticon of choice here, just to be clear I am not being serious)

  • I didn't believe this was legit, but now I'm changing my mind.

There is no doubt that BLB have taken the piss on the build cost. However, that's what they charge separately, so they're under no obligation to give you a discount. Fine.

I was quite surprised when they installed my phil BB and charged me for a new chain (which I didn't ask for), rather than throwing it in. But as I had the same one new in the box at home, they gave me my money back, which was nice. On other small bits and bobs - ball bearings, handle bars, etc. I've always found them reasonable. Generally I like them.

And FWIW I do think that the location of the shop, and the rental costs ect. is often a valid point when talking about cost compared to on-line and big chains.

HOWEVER, for me the biggest issue, or rather the only issue, is that they mis-sold the frame as a NOS track frame!

Yes £520 would be on the high side for a NOS Rossini track frame. But at least it is in the boundaries of reality. £520 for a resprayed (?) road frame is not.

I cannot see how they can dispute fact that the buyer is entitled to some portion of the money back. The fact that it is no longer a standard retail item and hard to value, is irrelevant. It is easy to establish that track frames are less common, rarer, and command a higher value. Especially NOS.

My understanding is they either have to supply what they were meant to - ie a Rossini Track frame; repay the difference in price, or return + refund.

Personally, I really want a A Sunday in Hell to bring a small claim against them and I'm happy to chuck some money in to help pay for the £30-50 fee.

Also if you need a hand finding similar products/pricing to provide as egs I'll be more than happy to help.

  • It hasn't been resprayed.

  • And FWIW I do think that the location of the shop, and the rental costs ect. is often a valid point when talking about cost compared to on-line and big chains.

    .

    You'd be wrong.
    Ask Julian Richer.

  • So James now that BLB have replied on the other thread and explaind that it is NOT a respray and they never at any point listed or told the customer it was a track frame do you think you could climb down from that horse as I'm getting a crick in my neck.

Oh and thanks for the neg.

    xXx

  • neg or nerg?

  • nice

  • 2Its just like that BLB Bianchi LoPro saga all over again.

It never ceases to amaze me that people are suprised by the antics of a shop whose main customer base is people wanting to join the "fixie" craze and will happily turn over a stupid amount of money for something that they think makes them look cool. And tehy are not the only shop, pretty much all teh fixed specialists that have cropped up in the last few years take the piss.

Yeah but he's only good for low level jobs.

At the time of my comment the information as supplied gave serious doubts as to the bona fides. I am still surprised that BLB can remember each customer from a year ago. Once when visiting their shop one of their staff told me how they had built my bike for me, as she remembered selling it to me! (strange as it was the Serotta) As such I am doubtful that they can recall each customer. I still sit on the fence as to what was actually said to Sunday in Hell. As others have said it looks like they charged for items like a seat post bolt that was not required.

    Sorry for any offence caused.

  • why did Sunday In Hell change his name anyway?

  • HRH, it would be above my stature to be offended by ones observations at this or at only other juncture ;-)

  • why did Sunday In Hell change his name anyway?

he hoped it would pave the way to better things

  • why did Sunday In Hell change his name anyway?

Wasn't all the argy-bargy about it on Sunday? ;)

  • he hoped it would pave the way to better things

Or he was thinking of the muddy brick road.

  • If I was him I'd 100% want a second opinion on the paint job! Just for piece of mind.

  • 2nd opinion?

People are going to take the word of someone who has taken a year to figure out the difference between a conversion and a track bike, having spend £1700 on a bike with what looks like no prior research or attempt to get any kind of better deal, against that of folks who make a living out of selling nice, but admittedly expensive bikes?

In the same position I would never have paid 1700 for that bike, I don't think it is worth it personally, but if you've got the excess cash and you have a boner for it, knock yourself out. I don't think its blb's job to give him sound financial advice or take him under their wing as when it comes down to it, it's his cash and his job to manage it and make his own decisions, however I don't think they're going to deliberately lie or extort cash from him as he could have easily walked back into the shop 2 days later and screamed the roof down.

If you're not going to take responsibility for the way you spend your own money then don't fucking cry about it a year after the fact and start slandering folk when you finally make the effort to figure out what the fuck it is you've actually gone and bought.

My tiny mind is well and truly frazzled by this saga.

  • I don't think its blb's job to give him sound financial advice or take him under their wing as when it comes down to it

Well, it kind of is. If he's as ill informed as he makes out, then the build must have been based on their advice, and there are some very ill advised selections there. If they aren't going to provide good advice in exchange for their high prices, why would anybody shop there rather than on the internet? Disregarding the question of whether the frame really is NOS, and whether it was represented as a track frame, and whether the frame and fork price was reasonable even if it is what it purports to be, there is still plenty in this saga to paint BLB in a very poor light.

  • I think the thing is that for that amount of cash you and I would take the time to shop about, speak to a few folk about prices etc and get something that represents not only a damn nice bike for 1700 quid, but good value too.

This chap clearly hasn't, and although my mind does boggle at the prices on display at BLB, they are only there because people are willing to pay them. For that amount of money I could have a few weeks holiday, fly over to Italy and have fun hunting for vintage treasure myself and come away with an equally nice bike, a tan, a large belly full of pasta and wine and a big smile on my chops.

I just don't get how it's taken him a year to get his shit together to the point he's challenging what's been said and how much he's been charged-normally you do that before you buy, no?

Or am I being a massive cunt... I will admit I fail to sympathise with him in a large part because he is spending a shit load of cash and seems to not have the slightest clue-maybe he was conned but he doesn't seem to have done much to have helped himself.
