It's poor etiquette and it may even be slightly disrespectful, but it's not against the rules in any way. People most definitely can turn a profit if they choose to, but seller beware as doing so will likely burn some reputation.

Why have you got in to the habit of just being contrary for the sake of it? Recently you've come across as a bright teenager of liberal parents desperately trying to find your own identity. I preferred the old version.
i enjoy the polite and socially accepted responses IRL of people who appear to have a large distaste for me.

it's a thing that some people have a problem with, but doesn't affect the majority of the community, and certainly doesn't affect what happens in real life (JD turns profits, sound guy), the kind of beef expressed in the thread and here brings an unnecessary downer to this place, especially given what a shitty week it's been, i was commenting on how i don't feel the same way about it as jaw, Markyboy, horatio, etc., i do not and would not sell things for profit but i don't see any advantage to publically slating amey and other new users (c'mon, older users don't get called out for this stuff), if you don't agree why not just send a pm expressing that, or just ignore the thread?
How do you know how I feel about it? I haven't expressed a view on the rights or wrongs of what he's doing. I merely questioned your use of the word "shrewd" to describe something a half-trained chimp could do.

I cannot imagine you taking much flak if you were to make it against the rules.

And I've only made it clear that I won't sell anything to you if I suspect you're buying it to make a profit. That's not at all incompatible with your seemingly free-market stance.

Most aren't bumb enough to get caught out doing it.

i think amey just doesnt get this place and the way things sell here. a few weeks ago he was trying to justify that dibbing on a bike and offering more money then the asking price was the way things should be.

Ah, it's that guy. WAC.
Does this forum need an 'etiquette' thread? Seems to be happening all to often.

I can't get worked up about arbitrage. I sell some stuff cheap because I don't want to put the time and effort into attempting to realise its maximum value. If the person who buys it from me wants to front up the money to get it out of my way, and risk not making his money plus recompense for the extra time and effort if his idea of the true value turns out to be erroneous, that's his business. Jonnylau was a special case, since he was making deliberately false representations about why he needed to be given free stuff, but most sales on here go through without any a priori discussion of the buyers motives.

Just noticed this, Josh you are right. I'd also agree with the sharp power of judgement to make profit. Just as many others do but don't seem to get called out on it.
Should we start doing that?
