After cycling 74 miles altogether yesterday the most important thing I learned was that I definitely will be investing in some comfy padded shorts before my next long ride! My fanny was not happy.

After cycling 50 odd miles last Sunday...
My fanny was not happy.
Snap!
I was wondering how best to bring this up but you did it for me Scoot :)
Anyone's messenger bag strap dig into their bloody boobs too??

Woo hoo! Thanks for heads up....have been coveting a Speedster for about a year now and was almost tipped over the edge at the last ladies drink.
But reduced to almost half price...I'd be a fool not too. Hope the large fits me. Looks like new shoes will have to wait till next month, but I need a merino hoodie in my life I reckon. It will probably actually make me a better person.
Or something ; )
Happy to help - I've been coveting one for about a year now too. I've got a non hooded Sugoi merino top and it's one of my favourite bits of cycling kit so I have high hopes for the hoodie.
And re the last couple of posts - I am going to recommend Sugoi shorts again, the padding is ace.

^^ Haha no problem. I wear rucksacks, so I dunno.
^ Oh cool thanks, I'll check them out
-
• #256
Yeah I'm looking into a good one with air flow...no more sweaty backs or crushed shoulders FTW...
Cheers tricitybendix!
Also I've been offered some free stuff from Rapha for my charity ride, anyone wear any bits/can recommend some pieces so I know what to beg for? I only own a 1/2 price winter softshell/cap as I can't afford it usually!!

I've got a Rapha Condor skinsuit (which I am far too scared of and unfit to wear without other stuff on top of) and the chamois in that is amazing. Admittedly you probably don't want a skinsuit for your charity ride but I'm guessing they use similarly good padding/chamois in their normal shorts.

ooh if it's the same, that's really useful. I did wonder how good it would be compared to Assos or Sugoi. TVM!
-
• #259
Ha some of these Sugoi product names are full of win; the 'MidZero Bun Toaster' shorts and the 'Stamina Skirt' - "Has all the stamina in the world to help you with yours" << although these were in the running section, the cycling ones aren't as funny

I think I'm turning into a cheapskate, since I quit my job everything seems so expensive. ESPECIALLY cycling stuff!
EDIT: Here's another one for you...one has rather a small bust and can't find a good bra that a) Doesn't soak up all my sweat (gross) b) Is comfortable c) Still retains some bust like shape so I don't look like a 10 year old boy... Anyone got any good recommendations?
Boys...go away.

Yeah it's so expensive! Which is why I have resolutely refused to buy any until recently. But now every time I go to TKMaxx I run straight to the sportswear section.
^ I think the most important thing is finding a bra that just fits really well, I have a Calvin Klein bra which is the most comfortable thing ever and I wear it constantly, it's not a sports bra but because it fits so well it supports in all the right places...and is tight enough not to move about but not to constrict breathing. It's also made of a weird fabric that isn't terribly absorbent, so it doesn't get too gross.

Weirdly my Ck bra is the best too! Soooo comfy but again a bit expensive.... seriously need to pay a visit to TKMaxx - I'm just worried what it will do to my bank balance. I still refuse to overdo it on the lycra, etc I don't think it's necessary unless you're doing longer rides/commuting everyday. I commute in my blouse and dress w/ shorts under for work :)

Hmm... I've ridden in normal and sports bras and haven't really noticed much difference. I probably don't hammer it enough to sweat that much though. Distance > speed
-
• #264
It's only my back that gets sweaty really, mainly due to overloaded messenger bag I guess...
-
• #265
That'll happen with a sports bra anyway.
-
• #266
Hmm true, hopefully will get less gross though...

Some good cycling short advice on here - https://www.lfgss.com/thread25755.html

haha ace, cheers lady!

Sports bras do have the added bonus of allowing you to take your top off while wearing bib tights (should you need to) without looking like some weird cycling stripogram.

I read that with great interest. Then I realised that I was enthusiastically reading a thread about different things to wear on your crotch while cycling and came to the conclusion that somewhere over the last few months I have changed radically as a person.

• #271
I would never be brave enough to do that!! ^^
haha scoot, I feel like we're on a journey of self/bike discovery...

• #272
I would never be brave enough to do that!! ^^
you would if you REALLY needed to pee in a field.
I have said too much. I'm going away now.

stiff link had some advice re: peeing in a field whilst in bibshorts - she's mentioned them somewhere - a pair of bibshorts that are lower cut at the back or something so you can just pull them down over your arse.

I used to quite like my Jett - I even went to the States to get a white one (yes, it did end up the most expensive saddle in the world). But now I love my SMP (I've got the Dynamic). It's got a whopping cutout, and it's all curvy (pervy??) so it wraps around my pelvis . . . Seriously - it takes a little getting used to, but definitely the most comfy saddle I've ever ridden. Like most of the cutout saddles I find it works best with a fairly light chamois (my fave at the moment is the Protective Franca bibs - which have a zip down the back for all those necessities!)
Be warned - the SMP website is very confusing!!
.
I'll let you know after a long ride how they're going...
Didn't think to check Lidl! Thank mastershredder for the tip off.
