ouch! Sorry johan.
It almost happened to me on Thursday after West drinks, a car had stopped along the pavement and indicated left as I was preparing to overtake the car started to turn right and made a u-turn in front of me. She never saw me or checked what was behind her and i was looking at her. And people complain that my front light is too bright... -

We called the police at the scene but the paramedics decided it was better to take me to the A&E and I could deal with the police the day after.

Just been to the police and filled in a traffic accident report. I have also been to the hospital and gotten my record number. Contacting a solicitor on Monday, since it will likely be a civil case.

I had a black taxi do a sudden u-turn on me and 'very cute girl' cycling on wednesday morning down Newgate Street EC1, are cabbies so desparate to pick up a customer as to risk our lives and their license??.. anyway we both stopped in time.. just, I did get to ask 'very cute girl' if she was okay?? before berating the driver.. wish'd i got her number though..

since you filled it as a traffic accident report, I honestly doubt that they'll pursuit it, netherless gald you got out of hospital without serious harm.

But since the driver did not do it on purpose I can't fill in a crime report (or whatever they are called). I will still go after him in a civil case, I need a new bike since mine was totalled in the crash!

cough dangerous driving cough

I told the police officer that but she claimed it was not a crime, will talk to a solicitor tomorrow and make sure I go about it the right way.

pursue driver, no win no fee.. get new bike and get healthcheck again in one week.. no one deserves that sort of treatment.. the police are employed to serve the public.. fuck i pay my taxes, i'm sure you do too.. peace

if the police decided not to pursue it, simply pursue the drivers by contacting theirn insurance company to repair your bike.

You have a broken bike and two broken ribs. You were admitted to hospital. As I understand it, overnight hospital admission automatically upgrades the injury category to 'serious'. (I know 2 nights in hospital does but I'm not certain about a single night.)
Pulling a U turn across a cyclist ought, at the very least to be pursued as 'driving without due care and consideration'.
I believe this is a crime.
Failure to pursue this kind of thing is a result of institutional anti-cyclist laziness on the part of the police.
It results in poor justice for crash victims and inadequate road crash statistics, making it difficult for campaigners to improve road conditions.
I am angry; it almost seems as if the paramedics did you a disservice by sending the police away at the scene. I feel the cops should have seen you in hospital and not left this follow-up to you. -

Shit, bad luck mate. Heal up.

I took his address down incorrectly, damn it! But I still have his licence plate number.
Anyone heard of a street that sounds like "heating square", google hasn't :(

Did you get a postcode or town for the chap's address?
-

I have his phone number I think, haven't actually called it. Will leave that up to the solicitor. Also have his DOB and licence plate and name. So only solid proof I have is the number plate since I took a photo of it!

.. wish'd i got her number though..
I'm sure she got your number, mate.

johan, it needn't become a full-blown civil case if the drivers' insurance pays up damages and you're happy with that (less hassle for all involved), but your solicitor will obviously be on top of all that.
Don't hope for a prosecution for a driving offence. It may happen, but it very rarely does, unfortunately, and there'll be a large number of 'worse' cases than yours ahead in the 'queue'. However, do your best to pursue it until you get (hopefully not) the 'we will take no further action' letter by the police.
In any event, hope you're back on the bike soon, and recover well!

bad luck johal, hope you heal and sort this out soon.

the dreaded letter (and that's just for a deliberate hit and run despite number of CCTV, witnesses and evidence);

shit, glad you're alright mate, i avoid bethnal green road as much as possible because it's full of people pulling out without looking and throwing U-es without any warning..
i did see you heading up roman road on your other bike yesterday though, so hopefully you're healing up alright
were the police not called at the time? any accident involving injury has to be reported in at least a Collision Accident Report Book (CARB). Did he drive off? Contact the people who gave you their numbers as witnesses. Report it as soon as possible, if he reports it before you it will make it harder for you in the long run. Explain you haven't reported it earlier because you've been in hospital/recovering, in no way insinuate you haven't just got round to it (not that that is the case). Best of luck with it mate, if you need anything (info in dealing with police or rib injury advise) give me a shout.
