  • Worked on MTBs alot but new to road bikes...

Got a Tektro drop lever on my bike, removed the brake and everything but can't work out how the hell to remove it?

It looks like it's been permanently attached by some metal bracket... Any suggestions?

  • There's an allen bolt inside the lever that you access by pulling the lever in, i.e. as if you were braking, and then put the allen key in the gap to access the bolt.

  • pull the lever all the way back and in the gap it has left there will be an allen key bolt.

Beaten to it and explained better.

  • So simple!

    Cheers boss.

  • Well.

I did the allen key thing but now my lever is in pieces.

I know the two black washers go in the holes in the lever, and hold the black "barrel" in place, and also that the metal bar holds the lever in the hood. But I don't know where to put the spring?

  • the spring needs to hold the lever out, if that makes sense...

I'm not sure here it should go, but it needs to push the lever out so that it's nice and springy

  • Ye I tried but every way I put it it just... Goes floppy. haha

  • Did you use the 'Headbutt it off' method?

  • the short end of the spring needs to hook around the screw that is half out at the bottom of the hood.

  • Hmm, ye, it's now hooked around the top of the screw... Think I've got it but can't really tell because it's not on the bike...

  • best thread ever !

  • Although it seems to be pushing the lever out?

  • this is going into the "epic fail" right away !

  • Yes, it is.

which facking way round does the spring need to be?

  • im going to lever you to work it out.

  • Noo not another pun thread

  • Red?

  • Stop whilst you are ahead.

  • Mate in times like these, before asking the forum and be inundated with stoopid comments, think (i.e. read his site) What Would Sheldon Do?

  • Haha, some Mothers do 'ave 'em.

Poker rims and broken brake levers. This bike is going to be awesome.

  • I've given up..

TBH I'm not too bothered, the lever isn't actually broken I just don't know where to put the spring and I won't be using it anyway so I don't really care. :)

  • Too late now.. you've created a fail thread.. it will go down in lfgss history..

  • Did you just brake the lever?

  • You're doing it the wrong way around. You need to remove the bike from the lever.
