@ fix this - You have a bike and are riding it. That is all that counts. Be Happy.

You might want to consider a new chain as well - I took the one off mine and even with a decent chain tool it just refused to go back together, plus there are many stories of them snapping.
I reckon once you've replaced the BB and the chain everything would last a surprisingly long time. Like Andy says, have fun.
So it would appear that admitting i ride a unipack is forum suicide but I don't really care and if it means i don't get to join the "fixie elite" then all the better because riding is about having fun and getting away from all that bs!
Obviously the bike and components aren't top quality (the bottom bracket is shit and will only last a couple of weeks but it's easily replaced) but I wanted a cheap first bike that I could learn from, mess about with and customise.
I might be a newbie but so far I love riding fixed and joined this forum to speak to like minded people and learn a bit more about the bikes

I just read the latest Create advert. They claim that the frame is very light: 10KG. fuck me, that's considered light?
I have a frame here that weighs 3.5kg and I think it's too heavy.

@ andy - V-happy thyanks :)
@ fox - I've already got a new chain just gotta swap it over, I think a new chain ring and cranks are next on my wish list - any recomendations welcome, I want something that will last but won't break the bank -

how can the frame weigh 10kg? What's it made of, iron?

I was looking for a fixed on both ebay and gumtree and have seen loads of these about online. But luckily decided to look for a couple of reviews first and stumbled across this great source of fg info. Thanks for saving me 200 notes (But I now realise I might end up spending considerably more)

kingfisher you don't need to spend more than £200 on a decent bike, just try and find an old road bike (fully build) from a relative, friends, car boot sales etc. for £50 or even £20 smacko, and then spend the rest in converting the bike into a fixed wheel/singlespeed.
it's much easier than you think.

Failing that you can get a great year or two old OTP for that money, I did and haven't looked back since.

How much was your unipack? How much are you spending on top because of shit components? They're not a bit shit, they are 100% dire. My only experience with them was from what I heard on here, but I saw someone holding their crank arm in their hand the other day. I stopped to see if he was alright, turns out he bought his Create Unipack 2 days earlier. £100/day is clearly well worth it.
For £200 you can get a much better bike. When I say better I don't mean it's got more style points, I mean it's stronger, probably lighter, and more reliable.
For £50 then perhaps it would fall into the category, "it's a bike, I get to ride it, I have a good time, that's all that matters." Not at £200.

So can someone enlighten me. Are these CREATE track frames you get on ebay any good? I mean i kind find much wrong with the geometry and i saw one fly by and it looked kinda tidy.
Do they weigh a ton or something?
-
• #890
Nope they are re-branded Unipack frames.
Search Unipack and read the responses.
-
• #891
they are rubbish. use the search function for unipac. stay well clear dude

• #892
So whats the problem? Are the components just shit? I mean i have every other component but im kinda into the frame and the wheels for £200....i mean im put off by off the rack commuter fixes, but still. They catch my eye....and so does the price.

Don't get lured in...

The wheels are useless, dont have enough spokes to be ridden in confidence.
Everything else on the bikes is horrendous quality, look at one in the flesh to see what I mean.
The frames design is ripped off from charge plugs. For £200 im sure you can get a charge frame, or by a new fuji track for a little more.

The frame on its own, is heavier than many bikes fully built up. Full on weight is 30-40lbs or more.

Attracted to pretty colours. Man i dig those F'kin Charge frames as much as i dig the SE Lagers. I was just attracted to that light blue track frame.
Want this but ill be surprised if it goes for much less that £200.

Mate, seriously - stay well clear. £200 and pretty colours are attractive, but you'll spend double that again sorting it out into something you'll want to ride.
SE Lager
Charge Plug
Fuji TrackMuch better choices.

Completely believe you, this was Cycle Surgery we were talking about ;)
Hope hubs, ha ha! I used to have Hope hubs on my old mountain bike and the back one cost nearly as much as a unipack I think!
