if something looks too good to be true... it probably is, i'm not holding my breath!!

plus the tyres are already fitted... bargain :P

it's £120! it be a lots easier to get than building up a pub bike.
I think that was the unipak's sole marketing technique except replace £120 with £199 and pub with fixie

Presuming it doesn't instantly fall to bits, it'd be OK. I'm not sure where the advance is on eg my mum's bike, a fifty quid ninetieth-hand Hercules Balmoral with working Sturmey Archer three-speed, though.

I saw one this morning being pushed east down high holborn. With both cranks pointing at the floor.
FAIL.

I saw the bloke on the Portobello market with these dodge bikes and people were snapping them up. I'm after a second hand single speed or geared bike for £150-200 and I will not down the unipack route.

keep you're eyes peeled on the bay for fixed or ss bikes, many of them go for around 200 pound mark.
also you can make your own convertion for that amount, cheap racing frame/cranks/saddle/bars for 50-60 pounds, 100 quids for fixed wheelset and the rest on tyres, chain sprocket, etc. You can easily get a bike within your budget with a bit of sweat and some good research...

Nothing worse than pre-packed 'cool'
Making a bike yourself is half the fun - choosing all the different parts means you have something unique - getting a brightly coloured O.T.P kind of defeats the object.

Yea but there's also the point of getting a brightly coloured, and to the untrained eye good looking bike for now less than £200.
Someone new to the FG/SS thing will see the price of a plug and think £400 might not have that much to spend, then see the unipack and go hmm £200, thas mo' like it.

Cujo:
£150 BIN not a unipack
Ahh, I had my eye on that, I put in an offer a few hours ago :(

Saw a girl pushing one through Spitalfields yesterday. The freewheel was binding and every few steps the pedals did a 3/4 revolution so it looked fixed. Thats the end of my great story.

Firstly i just want to state that i still **love **this bike.
however, i was riding thru the city centre today and made a turn uphill at which point my handlebars came loose in the stem!
Luckily I was able to pull over and give it a closer inspection with my heXkey.
After a few twists i realised to my horror that the threading was worn as the top screw was rotating but not securing, leaving me with a very loose handlebar.
**Truly **upset, i phoned the shop owner and told him wat happened like.
To his credit he was ace, he came with his van to pick me up and take me back to his shop where he replaced the stem with a lighter version free & he also threw in a free 1/8 chain (not colourd) Free of charge!! Then he offered to van me back home, but i was liek 'no please' and made my way back via the peddle.
But all was not well.
Just as i was approaching 1klik of my pad, i heard a clacking noise coming from the bottom-bracket area. teh clacks (which were quite loud) came with every revolution of the crank arms!
At this point i called the bike shop owner again (his name is Mick) and told him what happened even putting the phone next to the bracket so he could hear it.
He said he would replace the bottom brakcet for me Free! and also that he would openup shop **tomorrow **to do it for me specially.
What do you think, peeps? -

Sounds as if selling Unipacks is more trouble than it's worth.
Still, sounds like good customer service.
-
• #817
can't fault the service i suppose. although i bike that didn't break might be less hassle.

If that bloke worked/opened his own store selling quality kit, it sounds like it would be very popular.

Well, I am a total noob and read some parts of this topic but I am really tired so only this question: What to do? Find myself a nice frame and build a fixie around it or buy a http://cyclezeal.com/Bikes.html ? When I buy one myself I am willing to spend 100/150 euros. Is that possible?

Buy an old 10 speed and a 2nd hand fixed rear wheel. easily do-able for 150EUR

A mate of mine just got a Uni Pack as an interim bike (gasp, I did). I didn't really bother mentioning anything about them and just egged him on to sort a proper ride, but he did ask if I could take a look at his pedals for him. I did, and they were both screwed in at odd angles. How he rode it I don't know. The threads on both crannks were completly fucked by the person who assembled the bike, and one pedal eventually fell off when he was out riding. It's mind boggling.
You say it's good customer service that this Mick guy is helping sort out the fucked bikes he sells, but I'd do the same if I knew that I was selling shit that might cause someone to hurt themselves.

too tired to find out how not to waste money.
too much money to be bothered.
too tired to be concerned about you own personal safety.
i want the look and i want it now.
........interesting
with all due respect you need to slow down and look at whats going on around you.

Damn right, mine doesnt even look good but I know its mine and I created it so I have an attachment to it. If you love your bike it is then much likely to get neglected and try and kill you.... like my Halfords bike did many years ago :D

Yea totally.
You're right Donut, and i'd do the same too, but to date i hav yet to come across a bike service which drops everything to sort out the problem and then uses top quality parts to replace the shit ones with. He's given me a new WTB road stem (wich i reckon costs about 15quid at least), decent chain and replaced the bearings with a solid pair...so basically ive got most of the dodgy parts that everone here warned me of, replaced FOC, so i guess i can forgive him as no harm was done.
;)
I was gona be cheeky & ask him for a new crankset..but i got my eye on one wich im gona try fit myself...and soon.
