• I don't mean to offend anyone, but not everyone was fooled by these right? My girlfriend knew I was looking for a fixed and saw them on eBay. She sent me a link and I instantly thought, "What a crock of shite."

only those who actually knew a bit about bike.

but to the untrained eyes, it look decent.

  • but to the untrained eyes, it look decent.

they do, but just from a good 50m away

  • even up close it does still look decent if you're not used to seeing other OTP fixed wheel bicycles.

Almost swapped my Peugeot conversion for one, thank fuck I didn't (cheeky cunt ask for £120 as well as the bike, especially since the Pug were a decent conversion with decent part).

  • HI all.
Yes I've gone and done it. the other night in a drunken stooper i bought one of these
I know you all said not too but the voices in my head kept on telling me it would be a good idea.

It arriver this morning and was together in 30 minutes,(after I'd straightened out the front drop outs so I could get the wheel in) and i was straight out. a quick ride down to the road to make sure everything was ok and back home. Took the forks off to see why they felt so notchy and found an extra ball bearing in there (all the spaces in the racers top and bottom were full) Spare? Packed it with graese now all ok.
Headed off for an hour (about 10 miles) and half way in the bottom bracket started making the most awful grinding noise. That'll get stripped down later, don't think the crank arms will hold up to too much abuse either.

Lets hope it holds together long enough for me to get my old Mercian home.

  • Who's first then?

  • Brilliant, please keep us updated on it's demise. I'm sure most people who buy Unipacks end up too embarrassed to go online with details. Well done.

  • Nice bike.

  • You live and you learn, as miro_o said keep on posting. Ride it till it breaks and then take the frame and forks and build it up with second hand gear for a hack or possible polo bike.

  • Start a blog about it's quick demise or something, including lots of the same wording the eBay auctions use, hopefully when people google them they'll get educated. Need lots of pics.

  • great thread :) keep us updated

  • the idea was to ride it while I made some canges to my old Mercian. Its rolling on tubs at the moment and I've never been too happy about goin too far from home on them. fancied trying to lace some new rims to the old campag record hubs, and getting the frame powder coated and a few other bits and bobs. Got to get it home first, then it looks like all my time will be taken up repairing this POS.

  • Some people just can't control their alcohol.

  • This is the old girl from the 60s I think, ruined with modern bits but she'll look good again.

  • Please don't powdercoat it if you can afford not to. Leave it as is or get it resprayed.

  • I had thought about sending it back to the factory for a propper referb. the frame was a gold colour then the transfers were taped over an the rest sprayed black. NOT BY ME. It probably is worth doing properley. the whole thing stands me to about £25. the frame and wheels came out of the back of my father-in-laws shed and the other bits are bits I had lying around or cycle fayre finds.

  • SAVE THE PUPPIES.

It would have been a better use of the money to treat the Mercian to some tlc and lovely parts, but as it is, just thrash the Unipack until it drops from under you. You'll feel hardcore if nothing else.

    Keep us updated!

  • Is the Unipack dead yet?

  • Surely, cant be much longer?

  • i feel yo pain, only remaining part of mine is my cranks which i cant wait to bin.

  • i feel yo pain, only remaining part of mine is my cranks which i cant wait to bin.

can we do a seremony, getting rid of all the evil demons

  • you better get start on the digging a grave then, i dont want this shit resurrecting

  • Is the Unipack dead yet?

not yet, but I haven't ridden it today.

  • c'mon guys. Did nobody ever tell you a dogs for life not just for christmas. And believe me, It's a dog.

If the forum bike idea is still running there's a pre-owned one here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=130279917172
