Hills?? Who wants to come over to my neighbourhood and take on Vale Street in Totterdown? It's reputedly the steepest residential street in Europe with a 45 degree section at the bottom!
(Even the thought of attempting it makes my legs go all funny)

I noticed a unicack in my work car park a few weeks back, finally found out this week who it belonged to, sadly someone I work with who is well into his bikes. I had a 'what were you thinking' conversation with him and pointed him to this thread - he addmittedly said that it was a POS and is now going to be buying something less likely to fall apart in a few months. He said that most of the nuts on it have a habit of working themselves lose and things are beginning to break already.
I feel better that I have steered him on the road to recovery. -

The worrying thing is that I saw some Unipack around London that have been heavily upgraded, the wheel, crank, saddle, head set, etc. has been changed expect for the frame and tyres.

I've seen a few unipaks lately. One guy came into my workplace with one. Initially, without a proper visual once-over, I was impressed. Thats until I hefted the thing. It the heaviest bike of its type that I'd ever lifted. It feels like the tubes of the frame were at one time on shelves in a plumber's merchants. The wheels, which initially looked like Velocity's, were so heavy also as to be almost beyond belief. The owner had paid £125 for it, and thought he got a bargain. I was too dumbstruck to say anything. In fact I could have got a hernia from it!

£100 and he could've gotten an lightweight Giant Bowery!
-
• #463
I must've seen some of them spending an extra £200 on top of their £200 (or £100) Unipack, it a bit scary to watch quite frankly seeing a shit bike with lots of decent compound.

They are all over west london at the mo . . main source seems to be a stall in Portobello

Where do you guys all hang? I'm in the Bishopston area - we'll have to arrange a meet for some drinks at some point - SouthWest drinks or something...
I've been meaning to go to Newport velodrome for awhile - the steep banks make Herne Hill look like child's play apparently.
What's everyone over here doing this week? Maybe organize something for Wed/Thu?

• #473
im in redland. in fact i am gonna cruise down to old duke in about fifteen mins if anyone is up for it. i'll be wearing a green checked shirt.
@ward. dam it can people stop posting about the toughest hills in bristol. my secret list is getting shorter by the day...

It'd be good to see some Bristol Names&Faces posted, so I know who to look out for.
You lot must run a pretty low gear? I tried to ride from Montpellier to Clifton via Stokes Croft and almost bust my balls. and I run a (lowish) 66 GI on that bike. Still there is some amazing skidding to be done in the wet!

I run about 74 gear inches (42-15) and cycle up and down between Bishopston and Filton (the hill coming up to the airbus roundabout can mess you up if you're having a bad day).
To get to Clifton I usually just go up Kellaway or into the city centre past Zero Degrees.
Anyway, we'll have to set up a night to meet for drinks and all that. Old Duke or Apple sounds good to me.
are i going dim headed or did someone just move this thread VB? im sure i put it in the general area. serious answers please, its late and i might just be confused.
