I have the exact same problem, think it might just be a shagged pedal though :( Think I'll just bite the bullet and upgrade to some top dorrah pedals ;)

Remove pedals, cranks, and bottom bracket.
Then degrease, clean, regrease (or antiseize) and replace in reverse order. -

Is the noise coming from your bike?

Your bicycle is haunted

you have run over a pedestrian.
often happens, just try a little bunnyhop to dislodge them...

it's just age
we all feel a bit like that every now and again ! -
• #336
could be so many things....pedal bearings/bottom bracket/frame crack/ungreased threads of bb.
I had something similar and it was cleat/pedal squeaking, solved by greasing cleat bolts.Follow provenrad's advice first and see if it helps.

strip re grease everything put back together
it'll probably still squeak groan moan and creek but at least you'll have greased it all for the upcoming summer riding season ! -
• #338
what is a suitable grease for these sort of purposes, at the moment i've been using one i got from evans for greasing everythin, threads the lot.
is this stuff suitable, or have i been barking up the wrong tree?

If I had to put money on it I'd say loose/dry L.H. crank interface with B/B. remove, and clean. refit with some grease on the bolt threads and torque up. result !

I suggest an exorcism.

• #341
if the bike is new or the pedals have been refitted try bedding them in also do the same to the crank bolts

Do your neighbours have an old fashioned metal bed? ;-)

Hmmmm, picked same stuff up from Cycle Surgery for £7.99. Bastards, thats £2 they owe me

as of yesterday, i've noticed a cracking noise as i pedal down on the left crank arm. I'm pretty sure all bolts are secure. Could it be the bb or maybe the bearings in the pedals? Fucking hell!!!

Obviously could be lots of things. I once fixed a creaking crank by greasing the taper. However, there is a big argument going on whether greased tapers are a good or bad idea. Sheldon's written about it but I forgot what his conclusions were.
I take it it is a sealed BB?
Edit: Found it, http://www.sheldonbrown.com/brandt/installing-cranks.html

Maybe its a tumor.
Or a loose bb cup.
-
• #347
it's not sealed and it's a sugino 75 bb. I might try strip the whole thing and re-grease and check everything is tight. If that fails, i'll leave it up in dalston unlocked and ride my activator 2.

I had something similar, my bb was too tight. Probably worth reinstalling bb.

High probability its the pedals.

Knees
Don't be so quick to assume you know where the noise was coming from... it might *sound *like it was coming from the left pedal, but from experience it could be all sorts incl. the bottom bracket/left crank interface, the seatpost/saddle (see above) or even the seatpost in the frame.
you'd be surprised how easily sound likes to travel around a tightly set-up bike
