Your knees? :)
Are the cleats worn? Is the pedal? Can you make the cleat tighter?

Is it a rattley click? I know that when my SPD cleats get worn they rattle about a bit, particularly down hill. It could also be the retainer mechanism on the pedal. Which foot do you normally put down? If it's the left then it's probaby wear.

Noisy cleats can often be cured by spraying them lightly with Mr Sheen or similar polish.

It could also be that the pedal bearings have loosened up. Does that pedal wobble around if you grab it? Otherwise likely to be a worn cleat - ATAC cleats wear out reasonably quickly as they're made of brass.

What sort of pedals/cleats do you have?

mdja What sort of pedals/cleats do you have?
"im useing time attaks and sidi dragons"
The assumption is the cleats match the pedals! :)

It's not part of your shoe rubbing on the crank with every stroke is it? Often noises i get when riding aren't from where i thought they were, the noise is being transmitted along the crank from the BB or something. On that point, it could be the BB, lightly grease the bb spindle, pedal threads and anything else where two surfaces meet, then tighten the BB cups.
Maybe some help, maybe not.

Is your crank tight? When my crank gave up the ghost and kept loosening off, I originally thought it was the pedal / cleat interface.
-

i checked the tightness of everything and its all good, i know its the cleat caust the frist day i had some left right motion in it... i.e shoe would move a fraction to the left asi pushed down and i could feel the slip at the pedal.
its more of a poping click then a rattiling one, ill try the sprays

Pedals often click especially if water got in at som point. Try puttting a few drops of oil where the bearing seals are are and spin the pedal (so the oil will enter). You can also lie the bike on its side and put oil around the seal and let gravity do its work.

Hi Guys,
Got a bit of an issue on the Charge, which started after it was left outside for a couple of nights in rain/cold when my lock broke a while back.
When I start to ride the bike in the morning I get a knocking sounds coming from the back wheel, after about half a mile it disappears. The sound only appears if I havent ridden the bike for a night or day, it doesnt occur if i'm off the bike and spinning the pedals, and it doesnt appear to be coming from the bottom bracket, its almost like there is something caught in the spokes, but its louder than that and repeats as the wheel goes around (not as i push the cranks although havent tried it on single speed cog yet). Going to clean and regrease the chain tonight but wondered if you had any ideas.ta

is the rear sealed or unsealed?? if it's unsealed, sounds like you need to disassemble, clean and re-grease.
or could be dirty chain. or dead pedals.
-
• #115
not sure if its sealed or unsealed, will check tonight, hoping its just the chain.
-
• #116
or could be a loose spoke.
-
• #117
Try tightening the little nut on the valve.

bearings.

turn it upside down and spin the real wheel, is it straight, is the chain line straight, is there any play in it
-

A very likely solution...
If it is anything other than a very expensive 'sealed' then you have some water in, and it has caused a little rust. Take the wheel out hold it parallel to the ground and put a few drops of oil where the 'seal' is, spin and the oil will enter the bearings. Do this both sides.

I had exactly the same problem with a rear wheel. When spokes have been in a wheel for a good while, the points where they meet/cross each other get little dent or groove in them (just like you see in old hubs where the spokes leave the flanges) and the noise is the spokes moving across these dents as pressure is placed on them. It drove me nuts for ages because it was only happening when I was off the bike and spinning the wheel, the only time you can safely inspect it moving, because there was no pressure being exerted on the spokes. I came up with the aforementioned dent theory but couldn't work out which spoke/spokes were making the noise so I tightened them all a quarter of a turn. This got rid of the noise for about 20 miles or so but it came back. I repeated the quarter turn, again on all the spokes, and it's been silent ever since (500+ miles).

It's probably a reporter clinging on to your back wheel for grim death trying to get a scoop on the fixie scene..

Had similar problem. Bugging me for a while before I discovered that chain needs a little room to breath. Just 3/4cm give up & down. Might help you out, might not.

its cats, they live in the tire for warmth at night, nothing can be done about it.
so rideing home the other day up a pretty good hill my cleat starts to make a clicking sound on the left side, jsut past the top of the fedel stroke, and i can feel a little bit of movement. i get home and tighten down the cleat rideing today and i heard it as i was going up hill again, and a little slowing and stopping, but this was just the clicking, and not the movement so much. got home and the cleat was tight... now im confused. im useing time attaks and sidi dragons... any thoughts on whats causeing my clicking?
