  • So guys, there is an alernative to carrying that massive lump around and here it is !

I was pretty miffed by the weight of the Fahgettaboudit Lock, either in my back pocket or in my bag. The weight was a pain and really anoying.
So i figured i could mount it to the frame using velcro.

I had a look around and could only really find garden velcro ties which weren't up to the job of holding such a heavy (2KG)lock

Thinking what a wonderful bagmaker scot not scott is, he kindly rustled up the velcro straps needed to get it on the go.

I rode home with the lock strapped up, which looked like this.

    Pretty impressive eh ?

So the lock would sit flush to the frame i had to remove the key hole cover

Anyway, Scott did warn me it would rattle like a cow bell, and sure enough on the ride home, it did just that. Noisy and anoying as anything.

I did have a plan though to stop this, using silicone and insulation tape

By filling the little hole where the niple of the lock bar goes in, and by insulating the bar as in the picture, it completely stops the rattling.
Check the videos, im not making this up !

before and after - as you can see in the videos below.

    Massive thanks to Scott.

    Over to you forum

  • Genius. I have to see this first hand.

  • Nice work dylan/scott. Every now & then useful threads do get started, like fred's one today on integrated headsets.

What's scott charging for the velcro? could be good for holding mallets.

  • Does anyone else do this with theirs?

...And yes, a scaffold tubed Raligh plus a Krypto Fah makes a very heavy bike!

  • i'm just gonna go ahead and piss everyone off by saying that lock is a joke to begin with. You strapping it to your bike makes it even funnier. Throwing the caulk in there is creative work, no doubt. but smarter work would begin with just buying a new lock.

great idea but i tried that on mine and it touches the tyre...

That lock is married to my sister. How dare you!

  • Why is the Fahgettaboudit a joke?

why do you think the lock is a joke ?
The NY Fah is one of only a few locks thats up to the job of locking your bike in London.

really? what happens to legitimate locks such as the OnGuard Brute? i'm ready to be shown up here. I just don't believe it.

  • Do you live in London Jersey?
A friend of mine had a Fag d-lock...and an abus chain...and another D-lock on his and his friends bike a few weeks back....the only reason they still have their bikes is because a security guard managed to stop the thieves as they were cutting through the 3rd lock.
Fags are very heavy locks without a doubt...but if you have to lock for any amount of time it's one of the best to use to try and slow the scum down.
Personally i lock with a Fag d-lock, and a Fag chain, and another d-lock if i have to leave the bike for more than 10 minutes while i do the shopping etc

    nutso.

ive never seen or even heard of anything like that.

Ok what do you guys actually lock to? Certainly not a fence or normal bike rack something because i could get through that with a hacksaw.

Just read the LFGSS Lock List

    right, your going on ignore.

constant antagonism wears thin very quickly.

  • I'm totally serious. what do you physically lock the bikes to?

you think i'm trolling but i'm not.

i guess if i lived in london i wouldn't put any money in my city bike. i guess thats the way i'd go.

  • You know what? the Fah Mini isn't even that heavy after a couple months of getting used to it over the Evo Mini, I use a Fabric Horse lock holster that's designed for the Fah Mini, and after a couple weeks, I didn't find it bothersome at all, all you simply need is to get used to it.

Dylan is trying to able to carry the lock without it being on your person, and like Scott, he's being inventive and creative with way of carrying the lock.

having said that, doesn't the Fah Mini come with some clip to attach to the frame? wouldn't it be easier and cheaper just to attach the black ugly plastic device on the frame?

you think i'm trolling but i'm not.

of course not, you're just not thinking.

  • i didn't get that clip, but nevertheless, i should have said also that i don't like the position of the Fah near my kidneys, doesn't bode well in a spill.

Having the bike ready to go, without thinking of straping on a fabric horse and lock is easier ? is it not ? i can jump on my bike and go. simple.

I'm not too concerned about the look ;)

  • I usually just leave the holster on the belt of my jean anyway, not that much effort of putting on your trouser and belt!

  • horses for courses isn't it !
I much prefer it where the lock is away from me when im riding.

  • not really regarding putting on your trouser on in the morning! but yes, having a holster is horses for courses.

I can understand the kidneys aspect thought, but I'm not really worried about it since I rarely ever have close call.

    Oooh tempting fate there!

Dylan (and Scott) thats some nice work there!

  • for what it's worth, because of your liver your right kidney sits lower in the rib cage and is more prone to injury form blunt force to the back. Pack the lock on your left if you're worried about it.

horses for courses of course. I'd ride a cheap, well maintained beater and lose the 9lbs of lock and 10 lbs of paranoia. I'd keep my money in my geared bike.
