- Regardless of the direction the ship was steaming in Argentina stated that the sinking of the Belgrano was a legitimate act.
So why did the bitch and the craven cunts around her repeatedly lie about the direction in which it was sailing?

The first casualty of war is truth.
We only find the truth out later.
From [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARA_General_Belgrano[/ame] - Wikipedia being what it is this entry could have been written by anybody, so a measure of scepticism may be appropriate: however...The Belgrano was sunk outside the 200-nautical-mile (370 km) total exclusion zone around the Falklands. However, exclusion zones are historically declared for the benefit of neutral vessels; during war, under international law, the heading and location of a belligerent naval vessel has no bearing on its status. In addition, the captain of the Belgrano, Hector Bonzo, has testified that the attack was legitimate (as did the Argentine government in 1994)
According to the British historian Sir Lawrence Freedman, in a new book written in 2005, neither Margaret Thatcher nor the Cabinet was aware of the Belgrano's change of course before the cruiser was attacked, as information from HMS Conqueror was not passed on to the MoD or Rear Admiral Sandy Woodward (commander of the RN task force). In his book, One Hundred Days, Admiral Woodward makes it clear that he regarded the Belgrano as part of the southern part of a pincer movement aimed at the task force, and had to be sunk quickly. He wrote:
"The speed and direction of an enemy ship can be irrelevant, because both can change quickly. What counts is his position, his capability and what I believe to be his intention."
It is highly unlikely that a situation report briefing to senior politicians would have included tactical information such as current headings or speeds of enemy units. As Woodward says, strategic decisions are taken on position and capability. The intention of the Belgrano unit in approaching from the south was, indeed, as the Argentine Navy said afterwards, to apply a pincer movement, so a defensive move was very appropriate. -

Do you want your public (bus, tube, train) transport to operate with the same level of commitment from their employees?
For the last fucking time......i don't think they do a bad job, apart from the cunts that repeatedly try and run me off the road in the no. 38, I just don't see why the greedy bastards should go on strike. It is hardly like they are down the pits working 18 hours a day.
Any way, i'm about to dice with death and go and dodge all the people on bikes who haven't ridden them in about 10 years. Oh and the no. 38, i swear those fuckers think i have a target on my back

Aargh! the bloody 38 bus. The worst route of a bendy bus ever. When two or three are nose to tail, as they often are, they block off whole streets.

there's been a lot of bollocks and nonce-sense posted in this thread. but i generally find this kind of thing just sickening.
Like I say, I'm pretty mellow, but I make no apologies for that. Fuck her.

rode to work with the missus this morning. nice pleasant ride. the east putney to euston tower ride took 45mins. two hours and 10mins quicker than last night's nightmarish bus ride. she was very pleased she decided to ride in. tired. but pleased.
nice to see hoards of cyclists everywhere. looked a bit like london freewheel day out there

My ride today, 25 mins, as usual.
My colleagues drive - 1hr 45, and he lives half a mile from my place.Another massively smug cyclist.
Assuming your colleague is able bodied (from your smugness) why don't they **WALK **FFS??!
A half mile walk should take about 10-15 minutes!! That anyone with a working set of legs regularly drives distances of less than a mile (I'm being generous) is to me, frankly outrageous. -

BTW, 'able-bodied' (and 'not able-bodied') is sometimes considered a bit inappropriate, as it's too black-and-white--a person with a mobility difficulty, for instance, will still be able-bodied in many ways, just have that one particular mobility difficulty. That said, quite a few people with mobility difficulties or other physical disabilities whom I've met have happily used 'able-bodied' to describe other people.

I think today will do more to put off those new cyclists than convince them, sadly. I haven't seen the roads more dangerous in a while.
yeah it is not the roads that are dangerous but the people who are on it. You road hater.

God, it was like a critical mass for cars out there today!

A lot calmer than yesterday for stretches, but it entertained me to pass a chemical transport at around half eight in Camberwell that I had seen go past from my balcony whilst having my early morning fag and cup of tea at half seven.

Amazingly our commute was fine. Tooting Bec to Clapham South was empty, Queenstown Road a bit messy but I just sat behind a bus thinking of nice things, Battersea Park fine apart from that mad pigeon who refused to move until the last second, Chelsea Bridge was cool and then I cruised through Pimlico, waved at a couple of colleagues. Victoria Street seems empty.
But boy I am sick of people who undertake me. Yes when I raise my left arm it means that I am going to turn left.

I just had the best damn ride from fulham up to acton in memory. so many new things to dodge, inexperienced pedestrians, royal mail people getting out in the middle of the road, scooters, cyclists, taxis, go-peds...
Every little backstreet, shortcut, filter, lane-switch seemed on a bloody kife-edge, and overtaking everything in sight. I'm fucking buzzzing hard!I'm with Prav on this one. Had a lovely ride home down last night - Lots of dodging and weaving on the way home last night then I bailed on the HSK and headed to Kings Rd via a completely empty (southbound) Gloucester Rd. The Kings Rd was empty going west but rammed heading into London.I then had an almost car free ride on the Kings Rd headed to Putney. This morning was more weaving and leaving traffic behind and I managed to scare the crap out of a bunch of peds crossing against my green light by yelling (with some urgency) "AHHHHH! NO BRAKES NO BRAKES!!!!!" and watching them scatter, which had me giggling all the rest of the way to work.
I haven't had this much fun in a long time. More tube strikes please!

Yes, yes... that is sadly very true, including as a danger those reckless new cyclists.
By what measure?
