and .37 going up?
-
• #28
I'm gonna plot these on a big map of Brum with pins, then work out a route for a hill climb tour
-
• #29
I've never been up it!
-
• #30
I'd probably get half way then start rolling back fakie
-
• #31
I used to go up it on the way back from Decathlon. Didn't think it was anywhere near as hard as Rose Hill
-
• #32
Where's rose hill? Tbf I'm shit with any incline ha
-
• #33
Some place called the lickey's, sounds well rural. I think you need to put your seat up a bit, but then I think that about everyone (apart from Andy)
-
• #34
I usually think the exact opposite - Andy's saddle is way too high...

The midland hillclimb champs were always held on Farley Hill, in the Clent Hills. Thats quite steep. Only ten miles or less from the city centre. Winning time usually around 3.05 I seem to remember.
-
• #36
I can only find Farley Lane, just off Romsley Hill. Is that the one?
-
• #37
Thats the one. It has a caravan park near the top. A couple of tight bends halfway up.
-
• #38
I might ride up it in the big ring for 'fun'

Waterfall Lane Old Hill, reaches the same elevation as Powke Lane but is around two thirds shorter..so as you can imagine its a lot sharper.
Evil climb if you have to do it after a day out cross country in the Lickeys/Clent Hills, proper morale sucker.
You could make a right horrid hill climb route in the Halesowen, Old Hill area.

• #40
Yeah, looks nasty! Serious fortifications to stop people's houses falling in the road
-
• #41
Great pub at the bottom of it if you need some Dutch Courage...;)

I did that once, to see if it could be done !
I was only 133lbs, just back from road racing abroad. I struggled, but managed it.

Any hill recommendations closer to south-central Birmingham?
We coul have a mini hill sprint virtual time trial...

• #44
In.

some tamer hills, but closer to south-central birmingham are - all the way from custard factory in digbeth along the ring road through moseley and into kings heath - that's three hills - one coming out of digbeth up to the roundabout, the next between the old moseley dance centre / epic skatepark and moseley village, the third after the cross in moseley up to manjits. none of those hills are too bad but they make for a good workout in succession! similarly russell road, between edgbaston and kings heath is renowned for destroying some of my ahem 'less experienced' mates...

but yes, rose hill is my nemesis, i did it once on my geared bike and felt euphoric coming over the other side :-) gonna have to nail it on the fixie one day :-)
-
• #47
Garrison Lane! Unfortunately it's my main route in and out of town.
-
• #48
I think Rose Hill is harder the opposite way (from the M42 junction) as it's less steep it tricks you into riding harder and knackering yourself earlier
-
• #49
I'll do it !
And I'll put up an appropriate prize too.
-
• #50
I'll ride this for sure. I nearly nailed Rose Hill t'other day, got to within 200m of the top and had to stop.
Try going from Oldbury Asda to The Amber Tavern on the Hagley Rd, torture. Harborne Hill is easy enough fixed. The hill round the back of the Bull Ring past Moor St station is hard cause you have to slow a bit on the approach due to buses/sharp left turn (pedal strike risk). Then you have to dodge dickhead pedestrians who cross on a green...
Other savage hills are Barnes Hill (long...), the Bristol Rd into Selly Oak from Northfield way, Great Charles St.
Used to do a savage hill run when I lived in Sutton, now I live in harborne and go the selly oak-bristol rd-pershore rd way to work I get the above hills in loads.
Lets do this hard hill run!
I hit 37 MPH going down it.
