  • Quick question, what do you thinks the toughest hill in bham?

    thanks

  • those ramps up the canal bridges with the bumpy brick surface, especially when somebody in front of you decides to stop half way up.

  • Quarry bank, Brierley Hill going up to Merry hill, NASTY! (not really B'ham but close enough to get a mention)

  • its out of town but rose hill in the lickeys is a killer!

how about in the rain too...... ha,ha,ha....

  • it's also not really birmingham, but it's in earlswoom which is not that far at all.
the road is called tom's hill, or somesuch, it hurts on the way home and demands some out of the saddle, bar-swinging, heavy breathing effort. there's also a road between lapworth and henley-in-arden that is like a roller coaster with some ridiculous virtiudinousness.

  • O.K, so maybe not the toughest, but a sprint ALL the way up Bradford St gets my cardiac tissue heaving. Its an all out effort - then slowly, very slowly, the lactic acid creeps in and just as you get past the abacus flats - i go insane.
    I love the ride home.

  • i'm looking forward to fin's carpark race, despite not really having the physique of a climber. the worst feature of bradford street is the junction half way up - just as you're getting in to your stride you have to stop behind some asshole in a metro, who lacks the civility to indicate that he's turning left. then as you get into it, it turns downhill back on to digbeth high street and you're racing buses and different assholes in novas towards the roundabout. blatantly the worst climb, for all the wrong reasons

  • Dunno the exact location but follow the number 5 cycle route and you'll find a hill that is barely possible with one gear

  • i agree with mr smith some of the hills near merry hill along side the canals where there are a series of locks & kissing gates up the side of the hill .... tricky to do without a foot down

  • Its very short, but theres a little bit in ackers park (small heath) that runs along side the dry ski slope. Gotta be the steepest concreted surface in the 'ham.

in the countryside near the peacock?
    its the old roman road?
i had to ride up that in 1st gear on my motorbike.

  • so we have some options for a hill climb ride of bham then? ;)

  • cape hill/harborne hill can both be a bastard when youre tired. park lane through sandwell valley still manages to stump me.

You can do a nice loop taking in the roman road and then up the weatheroak afterwards.
Still, Merry Hill it is for me.

agreed. i used to have to do harborne hill every day at work, it was torture. occasionally had to push the bike up it. i still miss it though

    Yes please!

  • Wingardium Leviosa! Threadium resurrecto!

    Lets make this happen Shredder

  • I did a Hill Climb race evening once and no-one turned up! 3 people!

  • Must've been before i lived in brum, definitely would have turned up.

I'd be well up for organising the 2nd in the cadbury themed race series. I'm thinking the 'Timeout Hill Climb Eliminator'. Time trial tour of the toughest ascents in the ham. Slowest to reach the summet at each spot gets deleted!

  • Sounds sick!

  • The toughness of a hill is proportional to how hard you try to ride up it.

  • Poke lane

  • Found Po*w*ke Lane on google maps, pretty much vert! Good suggestion

  • Powke lane is easy!
