You have to chew the tyre before you fit it. Like some indigenous types do to soften leather.

You need warmth, lube and a bit of force. Did I miss something?

Mr Scoble can help with this.

Drugs or Booze to lubricate the mind often helps too.

now I know this is setting myself up for standard lfgss banter but this is really annoying me now.....
My tyres are literally so so hard to take off and put on (700c) it normally takes two people to do it (one to hold one tyre lever while the other to almost wrench the tyre round with the other). There's hardly any space to put a second lever in as the tyre is so tight to the rim(so forcefully that it tends to scratch my deep v)....nothing like ive ever had on any fixed bike. Even when I very first time i put a tyre on that rim me and the guy in the shop had a 10 minute battle with it.
any magic tips to help or suggestions as to why this may be?

What fucking tyres and what fucking rims.

There is a fair amount of variation in rim and tyre sizes. Some brands of tyres will always be a very tight fit on certain rims.
Deep profile rims like Deep Vs are especially susceptible to this type of issue. One tip is to use talc and liberally sprinkle it on the rim and tyre as you fit it.
Alternatively a dose of HTFU and some top tips from LFGSS's resident tyre fitting expert, Mr Ed Scoble, may work.

Strange. I used Zaffiros and they'd come off easily. Perhaps your rims are [strike]shite Velicity[/strike] dodgy?
-
• #93
hey that was official LFGSS banter mang,
Vittoria tyres are usually pretty forgiving, only found Schwalbe to be easier to fit though i have only ever run mavic rims
-
• #94
thats what im thinking, might try another make of tyre next time see if that helps
-
• #95
i know i was just giving it back mate ;)

Don't be tempted by Continentals. If Vittorias are tight then you've a snowball's chance in hell of getting a Continental on.
Michelins are usually pretty easy to get on most rims.

• #97
Do you have the same problem with other rubber products?
-
• #98
Cut them from bead to bead, fit and then glue back together. That's what 'Tyre cement' is for.
-
• #99
Yes. Yes I do.

I've had some very tight Vittoria tyres too.
Best thing is to constantly try and make sure the bead is fully seated in the middle of the rim after every bit of tyre you squeeze on and try and roll the tyre on with your entire hand.
