Riders working in a group will always be able to acheive a higher pace than a solo rider. Because they draft and take turns at the front although the overall speed and front output is higher, they individual efforts are lower. Learn to draft and try it out if you don't believe me.

The effectivness of breakaways has been seriously reduced by the advent of radio contact. Shame really.
Also having someone to pop to the team car for water most be pretty decisive in the hard mountain stages.

I would like to see a pro tour race stripped down to the basics. No radios, water only from people at the side of the road, neutral service vehicles only. A real test of a team where everyone is in the saddle.

Cyclists dont feel secure unless they have a group of fellow cyclists with them, to confirm that they are indeed using/wearing the 'right' gear.

Soon Garmin will install a browser in their bike computers, so that individual cyclists can gain this respect from their peers with having to drag a bloody great peloton around.

That's happening this year - the no radios bit on July 14 and 17. I like the idea. Wonder whats going to happen to the race though, will the GC contenders keep the pace high and not allow anyone off the front at all? Will the domestiques spend half the race going back to the team cars for instructions? Should be interesting.

We only adopt kiwis if they win. When they win I will be praising Australia's glorious Tour victory, don't you worry.

Columbia and Garmin are chasing down the breakaway at some pace now. Only 3'30 mins in it now.

I don't think they are allowed to take on water once they are on the climb.
