There have been some terrible accidents on that Peckham Road area. When I lived opposite the college a motorcyclist got dragged underneath an articulated lorry for 100yds before the driver noticed. Fucking horrifying.
Thoughts to the lady from today, hope she will be ok.

I know this junction well, it's packed with people and very tight, no place for a massive lorry.

my heart goes out to the victim, sad.
i generally pass through there a few times a day, from the peckham library to where this incident happened is a nightmare bottle neak. traffic moves slowly, moterbikes cut up the centre & because of all the bus stops peds walk out onto the road like lemmings as well as having some of the worst road surfaces.
Trucks often turn left up toward the Ildl (and a few other discout stores up there too) without indicating. Its a really tricky spot because filtering on the outside is really dangerous as the road is so narrow. I almost went into the side of a car there last week, no indicator & because of the pace of the bottleneak & lights people feel the need to put in as much acceleration as quickly as possible when they get a chance.
Not to get into undertaking HGVs debate, but i think that messege should be clear to all cyclists. be defensive where you can people and more importantly be safe.

my thoughts and prayers are with the victim.
when these happen i feel real bad. it is difficult for me to deal with. it just makes me cry. i cant help it. it just does.
what i do is i write to my mp asking for safer streets / safer community etc.
it does make me feel a little better. like i am doing something. rather than doing nothing.

I was thinking this morning "what a beautiful day to be riding a bike". Suddenly it is not so nice. Here's hoping that she will be alright.
I was thinking the exact same thing when the police waved me through the car road block and I had a few hundred metres of road to myself before I reached the scene. Thoughts and prayers still with cyclist and family. Any other news available?? -

your mp needs your support to acheive these changes.

This is another HGV crash on one of the possible routes for the Mayor's Cycle Highways ... -

i passed this accident this morning on my way to work this morning minutes after it had happened, for neither fire nor ambulance services had arrived yet. it was horrid, to say the least.
i hope the victim is okay. thoughts to them.
i certainly won't be cycling home this evening.
be safe everyone

Somebody's point is a really good one - particularly people who live in the Camberwell and Peckham constituency (Harriet Harman MP).
There was a Bike Show podcast a while back about how the GLA are trying to tackle the HGV vs. cyclist issue, but clearly things are not moving fast enough...the more pressure we can put on our politicians about this, the better.

It's always the green line between the road and pavement approaching the ASL semes to be at fault here giving re cyclists the illusion of safety when it's far from it.
every accident I heard insofar are usually involved the ASL and lorry crushing the poor cyclists.

That certainly will help nothing, cyclists scared of and off the road is a disservice to other cyclists.
Your very presence on the road helps make it safer for every other rider. We just have to be extra sentient in spotting potential hazards on our routes home and observant at all times.
I hope the person is OK.

I went through there this morning, saw the lorries, a huge part of peckham was blocked off as well. didnt realise it was a cyclist. Fingers crossed she's alright.

At the moment it seems like every safely completed ride to and from work is a minor miracle. But not sure there's much would stop me getting on my bike...
Hope she/he is ok.

Best wishes to cyclist. Hope you are ok.
Note: Another female cyclist. It surely can't be mere coincidence we've had so many so far this year.
Is it simply that women are, in general, just more polite and give up more road space, so allow larger vehicles to semi-pass and then left-hook them unexpectedly?

I'm sure its more than coincidence but its a subject that people appear to steer around for some reason ...

female cyclists are likely to follow the law (i.e. less RLJ) than the males counterpart (as far as I know), so they follow the cycle lane and path because they think it's safe, while in reality, a handful of them are dangerous, like Bloomsbury for instance.
and because they follow the rules, they undertake the vehicle because the green section told them to, little did they realise it'd come to their untimely death.

ed, rather than "safer" the correct term is probably "risk adverse". Not taking perceived risks does not make you safer as the sad statistics may show.

So right,
I read that males are much more likely to RLJ than females, and (the inference was) as a result are involved in fewer accidents.God I hope she is alright.
