get a geek house sturdy good quality frames
what do you reckon dale ? are they bullet proof frames ? -
• #28
Amazingly though, the cheap crap seems to be able to take a lot of abuse without breaking....funny that eh, I just don't see a bob jackson/geekhouse/blb etc etc being able to tolerate anything like the kinda abuse a trick/freestyle rider can hand out, prove me wrong if you want, lend me a lugged Bob Jackson and we'll see how long it lasts haha.

cutters are still cheap crap, you're just paying a lot for the hype.
Nothing to do with the heavy duty tubing, gussetting, oh and the lifetime warranty..... how many people do you know who have broken one Dale?

What like the same strength level as a bob Jackson?! Haha gimme a break please, there is no way in hell that BLB own brand frames and/or BJ frames are as strong as a Volume Cutter, Plug is a brilliant frame, probably stronger than a Steamroller in my opinion, I don't think you can go wrong with a cutter or Plug for tricks, both are very strong frames which have been ridden by some pretty hardcore riders.
I'm not sure on the steamroller for heavy trick use, as I don't know anyone thats abused it as much as people have abused cutters/plugs in that respect, but I know they have a reputation for being tough, and the build quality seems excellent, but none of those other frames I mentioned are anywhere near as strong as plug/cutter/steamroller frames IMO.Hmm in m eyes the steamroller is pretty heavy duty, 4130 if i am right. It is a case of horses for courses. All my bmx' s have been 4130, and i dirt jumped on an s&m challenger, which was designed for race use.Any bike will evetually fall apart....it is primarily about yor skills as a rider.
Of all the bikes mentioned for hard use, i would pick a surly.... -

Oh and charge plugs are cheap and mass produced as well, doesn't stop them from being great frames though.
-
• #32
Buy a Surly and then if your really worried take it to a frame builder to gusset it the fuck up.
-
• #33
Volume already comes Gussetted the fuck up :p

Back to a point further up the page why on earth did volume make a frame that couldn't take big tyres, their frame was clearly going to be a tricks type frame to only give it enough clearance for 32 mm tyre when perfectly true sound sill to me.

Of all the bikes mentioned for hard use, i would pick a surly....I still think it is a really good frame, i'm not knocking it at all, the only reason I would go for a cutter or plug is purely because they are proven when it comes to the whole tricks thing, they have been ridden by some good riders that go big and break stuff on a regular basis, and they take the abuse well, think tom mosher, SuperTed etc etc

Yup pretty stupid really, its been corrected in the V3 but i'm in agreement there, I think the V3 clears a 37 no problem.

I agree cj, it is now totally up to the op!!!buy surly, buy surly, buy surly!
-
• #38
did i miss the part where the OP said he wanted to do tricks? hmm...
if it's just for hammering around London's famous London then I will add to the Surly recommendations.
I <3 mine. Rides nice and is as solid as hippy's sworn oath to finish every pint.

Ah, that'll be why my pint glass disappeared the other day after I had put it down for a moment, just before finishing it.
Is he as obsessive about this as about posting to the forum?

You don't need a bombproof bike in a city! just a decent lightweight one that can sustain the abuse.
I don't see him saying he want to do trick with his new bike.

Fixed Trick bikes are ugly.

Goldtec/Phil Wood hubs on some touring rims (Rigida and Mavic are the best way to go here) either 36H or 48H depending on how mental you're planning on going with your bike
A set of Phil Wood hubs will take a massive chunk of an £800 budget. Unless you know somewhere to get them cheap!

Ive narrowed my choices down to the Volume Creedence, Subrosa Malum fixed or the Koxx Intersection
You just made all those up, didn't you!
ok, well whatever you buy, ask them to throw in a set of pocket terrapins and a tube of vista-grill to keep the nasty stuff at bay.

Hi saw my bike mentioned up there. The frame and forks are steel.
-
• #46
all this talk of "bombproof" and stuff...are people riding these bikes then, or hitting them with sledgehammers?
a road bike is designed for roads, and hey, the roads in london are pretty flat. I'd rather have quality components that won't break rather than some own-branded crap that comes on a cheap bike designed to jump on kerbs (or a bandwagon which has already left town)
-
• #47
over £800 for that piece of crap? have you looked at the spec? it's not even worth half that.
-
• #48
hey that's Yorgo's bike.
hehe..
but yeah, the manufacturing costs are the same as most entry level BMXs, 20 and 24" which retail at £250-£350.
so some people are having the piss taken out of them, and it's not the BMX'ers.

The new 14 frame will be THE best tricks frame out there, but 631 goodness costs a little more than a cutter or a plug eh! Just saying doubt you could put together a decent lot of components for 350 quid that would take as much abuse as that frame will?

Yes.
Sorry about your pint, btw.
