I think you don't need to adjust the length of the rubber band as the ends are adjustable (to allow for stretch, presumably?)
Must be a fucker to get new chainrings/cogs for that.
What I don't understand is, how is it less likely to fail with mud and stones in it? If you got a stone lodged in one of the bloody great teeth, how is that better that a 1/8" cog tooth?

10'' single pivot bikes = rubbish.
Unless you're talking about single pivot with a linkage driven shock. A high single pivot with a linkage driven shock still works better than floating drivetrains in my opinion...it's what's been used on motocross bikes for a long time.
A high pivot gives the best path for the axle and the linkage controls the shock and prevents it from having to be set too stiff to resist bottoming that it loses it's small bump compliance.

Depends...i'm talking about a well positioned pivot with a linkage driven shock and a good shock tuned specifically to the riders weight..and a floating brake arm.

Well fair do's, haven't ridden much stuff like that, but have heard that works pretty well - but pretty heavy. But something like the Orange 224 is an extremely expensive frame, for the amount of technology you get, not that laods fo etch is always the answer, but its just pants compared to the other big name dh bikes atm. They wouldn't be anywhere without Steve Peat being on their team for so long.

who was the high-end car manufacturer (think italian supercars but not ferrari or lambo) who brought out that dreadful, ostentatious and unbelievably expensive bike a year or so ago? it was silver and orange with aerospoke-a-like wheels...? i thought zonda but my search showed nothing.....? anyone?
anyway, this trek reminds me of that.
