I like the look of the Laser, especially with the weight and the price.
High time to start selling everything I own I suppose.

Ed you've got the bug mate.
What happened to the ultra light blog tent you bought?
-
• #230
I still have it, going to try it when heading to Plymouth.
But I'd like something I can trust for South America.

Eh? Did I miss something?

Nice one Ed. Let me (or all of us) know how you get on with it. I'd like to do some lightweight touring this summer, just a rack pack and that strapped to the top.

not the lightest, but for ease of use i can't recommend the northface tadpole 23 enough. awesome little tent.

My Hilleberg Nallo 2 GT got savaged by a bird on holiday, tore through the outer and the inner and punctured allover the middle section however it's covered under insurance but I am now faced with this dillema A) Buy a cheaper tent (TN Laser 2) and wait for insurance B) Wait for insurance and buy new tent C) Wait for insurance and repair old tent

i have a terra nova laser, the 90cm version, it is quite good and even works for two people (if you are a couple), but i would recommend a vaude taurus ultralight (had one since it first came out and is still working fine) or hogan ultralight, its not much heavier and the pack size is not much more but you get so much more useable space.
hope that helps

I used to have a test a few years back, think it was a Kyham which had no poles - it used lines run to your walking poles, a tree or your car. If you could stand a bike upright, it would work with that. Lighter than any other tent I have had.

One of these

I know it sounds rubbish but Halfords do one which is their cheapest model, 2 man tent, £14.99 and it fits perfectly on top of the middle of a pannier. It weights no more than 1kg

Oh my god. If that happened to my Nallo I would actually give up being vegetarian temporarily to wreak my terrible vengeance on the bird world.

Need a tent I could fit my bike in.
This Golite Shangri-la 3 together with the Oookworks (mesh or fabric) nest totals 1.6kg / £290. Good headroom, plenty of floorspace for solo plus bike plus panniers. I worried about teepee appearance - not my demographic - but now feel it's visually more like a Scott of Antarctic sort of a thing. No way to attach small flag to top unfortunately.

Like the look of that, any idea how it'd hold up on heavy wind?

This one looks great for the cash. I'm off touring for a couple of weeks soon and not completely sure whether I'm just going to take a bivi or this;

Had a Shangrila for ages. Holds up in all sorts of bad weather, wind just speeds round it. A breeze to put up and take down too!
-
• #245
Anybody had experience of cycle touring with a bivi and tarp?
I'm considering it for a tour in about a month. Need a bit of advice though.
-
• #246
I'm off touring with just a bivi bag and sleeping bag in a couple of weeks, light weight camping will be buying food on route.
-
• #247
Which bivi/sleeping bag did you go for?
-
• #248
Can second the vaude taurus ultralight. It's self-healing. Fact. Comfortably fits two 6'2" guys and all mountain marathon paraphenalia. Extra space is worth the (negligible) weight over the lazers.

Which bivi/sleeping bag did you go for?
Bivi I went for the Alpkit hunka http://www.alpkit.com/shop/cart.php?target=product&product_id=16312
As for the sleeping bag I've got this at the moment (which is now on sale damn it!)
But I think I'll be buying one of these;
My main reason for not purchasing a down at the moment is the condensation from a bivi hence why I'm using my cheaper one at the moment. I say cheap but I don't believe in all this rubbish of buy the best you can afford. People have been very comfortable in much less.
