Lightweight tent recommendations?

  • It's Luxembourg/Belgium/Germany so rain is a risk even when it's good weather but the idea is good weather only.

    100-200 euros I guess

  • I'm sure platypus will come along with a suggetion.

I do like travelling with a tent. As if the weather is good, you sleep out and don't bother putting it up. If it's bad, you can hunker down and read your kindle and cook. You can't do that in a bivi.

But something that looks like this will be great, I love this design.

    I did see this...

  • I'd seen those. I reckon I should be able to get some sort of foldable pole in place of the trekking pole.

  • Read further up the thread for pole recommendations

  • hey I recommended a good thing, score.

  • Couple of questions; The LanShan says it needs to be glued (sold separately etc), required or just if you want to not drown in the rain? Also should I be getting a footprint too?

  • that means seam sealing, essential. you can do it yourself with permatex flowable windscreen sealant

footprint is normally a good idea, could also get a piece of tyvek of the right size

  • At £39 reduced the OEX one is worth a punt surely?

I think so yeah! Thanks for the offer, I'm trying to get kitted up for as soon as lockdown is over so will definitely be buying something.

  • Any thoughts on the Naturehike Tagar 2? Its available shipped from Spain for under 100 euros with a stated weight of 1.4Kg for a 2-person tent.

  • ok, but a bit heavy.
    it's a ripoff of a tarptent model
I'd take this plus some carbon poles instead

  • Bought a bivvy, tarp and some guylines. I bet the weather is so bad when I get around to doing my trip that I just take the tent.

  • congratulations.
    now learn from the master:

  • Just the thing I needed, ta. Excited!

  • Nature hike are great for the money, cloud 2 is ideal for 1 person. The grey fabric is lighter than the other colours IIRC.

  • You're looking at the pro version of the lanshan, which is more of a winter tent as it's a single wall tent that will have condensation issues in summer.
    I would get this.
It's a bigger version of the lanshan 1. Or just get the lanshan 2.

  • Completely forgot to ask you about this earlier, which one did you go for?

Was nice to bump into see you both earlier.

  • I went for the OEX Bush Pro bivvy and Bush Pro Tarp, the intention being heading to bivvy but using the tarp if rain happens, or if conditions are unsure. Really excited to try it out but the shared garden with many overlooking windows isn't appealing and the park feels inappropriate despite basically being my front garden...
You too, lovely as always :)

  • The platapus has sold me on the Lanshan - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000263050324.html?spm=a2g0o.cart.0.0.6f023c00aDxKIr&mp=1

Just a few questions before I order it in. Apologies if some are blatantly obvious - bit of a rookie!

The advertised tent (the 89 quid one) comes with everything you need minus a pole right? I don't need to buy an inner separately?

In terms of poles, is it best to buy a light hiking pole or is there a better alternative?

Do I need to buy different pegs or are the ones provided ok?

Do I need to buy a groundsheet?

Finally this business with needing to seal the tent up with windscreen sealant? Could someone explain this to me a bit further?

Sorry for the overload of questions. Any answers/advice much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

  • There are lots of custom tarp poles you can get that will be lighter than a fully-fledged hiking pole. Dont have links to hand but shouldn't be too hard to find. You can also just use a good stick.

Edit: on the groundsheet. Use it without one a few times and see how you find it. Your need for it will largely be determined by the types of ground you're going to be pitching on. If you do go for one then just get some tyvek on ebay. I think theres someone who puts on tie-out loops on the corners for free.

  • this should work. You would only need 3 sections instead of the 4 that come in a set. That would be a 130cm pole, which would be perfect for the lanshan 1. You would also need to put something on the end of the pole to support the tent.
This could work, but you can also use something that you have available already.

  • Good move.
I have answered all these questions, some several times. Please read this thread.

  • I've been looking at nature hike stuff too the cloud up is the one that i think suits me best the cloudup 2 for a bit more room but if you ain't bothered with the room the 1 is v light.

  • Bivvy received! Immediately blew up mat, put it and sleeping bag in and wriggled around happily for a few minutes.
