  • Yep, you probably know that Hilleberg and Terra Nova you can't go wrong have a look around the range.
Nothing wrong with other manufacturers though - I once spent 88 nights straight in a Vaude Hogan including a couple of storms, many of them with my then girlfriend. Tent was still absolutely fine after and if there's 2 bikes splitting weight means you can easily go up to 2.5 kg or even a little more.

  • Yeah, but I also know if you buy the best it works and will continue too. Also you get nice design features and no wasted weight. Also generally it's simpler and better to pitch too.

I've used a vaude before, and having spend near 100 nights in my laser comp, I know I'd rather spend the cash on quality.

    We'll be tandem.

  • MSR Hubba Hubba NX might be worth a look. I’ve got the MSR Elixir 2 which is a bit cheaper, and a bit heavier with slightly bigger porches, but very comfortable, good size and shape and great quality. The Hubba Hubba is similar but with upgraded materials.

Inner first pitching is the one drawback, can go outer first if you’ve got the footprint, but it’s a bit awkward.

  • There is a 2 person laser with double door openings I think.

  • Thanks knew there was a decent msr I remember seeing a couple using one at a campsite a few years back.

@Squaredisk I’d rather a conventional portch that a weird either side opening. Seems a weird design.

  • yeah, Laser is probably better suited to 1 person, I read the 2 person is pretty cramped also.

  • Anyone spunked bigtime for a MSR Hubba Tour? Looks the nuts. Two doors, massive porchy thing, exterior poleage, avail in stealthy green...

I’ve got an itchy trigger finger ... step away from the internet Skulls ...

  • Still trying to decide on what tent to buy, although the Hunka XL is £54 this weekend with Alpkit's discount which I'm now tempted by...

  • Hunka is a pile of shit. Spend that £50 and a few more on something made of goretex or event.

  • Nigor WickiUP 3 (outer, inner).
+ Plenty of space for 2 people with gear. Headspace too since it's a tipi tent. Slept 3 with stuff in the inner tent. Slept 4 with stuff outside under just the outer, tight.
+ Double skin. Same accessories for all configurations.
+ Very stable in wind, rain.
+- Can be fiddly to setup as shape mostly relies on correct tension and spacing of the corners. Still better than dac pole suspended tents (deeply subjective this one).
    - No porch. Although when using both layers you could create a small one.

    Hope this helps.

  • Ok, only reason I have it as a choice is because mates have one and they seem pretty happy with it. Will probably go with a small tent in this case.

  • Anybody had any experience using a DD Hammocks Magic Carpet as a sort of tent-extender/gear store type situation?

Going away next month with a Berghaus Peak 3.1, which mostly gets filled with me

  • Anyone had a chance to use Nature Hike tents or any of their gear? It seems like a good knock off from quality products.

  • Ive got one of their knock off aeros pillows and its brilliant.

  • Mine broke its poles when @Hulsroy and i over stressed it, but we're both 6'4" and it was a smaller tent...

he has got the bigger three man now which seemed very nice when I used it.

  • Have cloud up2.

Did west highland way and a 2 week bike tour with it and have done probably a month's worth of other smaller trips too. I got it for £50 back when the pound wasn't shite and it's been a great buy.

Not the lightest but it's lasted really well. I'm 6"2 and wouldn't want to be any taller. It's a very comfortable one man but easily doable as a 2 man if you don't have shed loads of gear.

  • Thats what we broke using it as a two man. If you want you can have mine as as spare canvas. the poles broke and I can't find a replacement.

  • Go for it! In the times i've seen it on Aliexpress since I bought it has always been quite a bit more £ than that.

  • looks hellishly narrow for 2.

  • Nice! I'm assuming it's been pretty waterproof?

  • I'll just be using it for one man + kit. Seems to have a lot more room than the other budget tent I've been looking at.

  • then you should be ok.
I used one for a week in iceland in the winter, it was tolerable and didn't fall over in 85mph wind.

  • see my above comments about breaking one.

  • You can reinforce the poles particularly near the three point joint to prevent snappage there. Use some nylon whipping cord, maybe a dab of epoxy on top.
