  • red tents go up much faster than green ones

  • red tents go up much faster than green ones

    +1

  • Red is easier to find when pissed/stoned. Back in 'the day' I've lost my tent a fair few times, on boozey camping trips.

(Waking up with a hangover, within an inch of death from exposure, to discover you're only 30m or so from your tent. Priceless)

  • red's nicer than green, I'd base it on that

This was my thinking also. [/raving aesthete]

I'd always go green personally unless your in snow like you said but that's me. My own one tent is orange and it's the biggest issue I have with it. Not exactly conspicuous. As Kboy says if you are ever stealth camping you will want a mute colour.

You're right. I should get the green. The only problem is that I want the red.

What tent are you going for?

    Terra Nova Laser Comp

also consider re-sale value, green tents I guess is default option for people and might fetch a bit more if you need to sell it

You're also right, but I'd rather be happier with it in the first instance.

    I like it!

  • Good tent choice. I love Terra Nova.

Go for green, it's the classic Terra Nova colour.

  • http://www.tiso.com/shop/terra-nova/jupiter_bivi/ , http://www.tiso.com/shop/hilleberg/akto/

If I had all the money I'd buy both of these. The terranova is goretex!

  • If I had the money for a new tent it would be some kind of transverse hoop tent like macpac microlite.

the lightest available, feel good about spending on a U.K product.
(or find a single skin, K.I.M.M or similar on ebay, expedition tents going on there can be good as they havent been caned on too many trips)

  • One of the criteria i totally missed when buying a tent was how easy it is to pee out of - haha!

Important one though if it's blowing a gale / pooring with rain.

  • sounds like terra nova laser is the one then, 2 doors, one for entrance one for pissing. Won't work in a gale though

  • Anyone have any experience with the Argon 900? It's nearly £100 off at the moment.

  • seems like nothing but recommendations for terranova above

doesn't look like it'll be good for a rainy night?

  • Also looking at this:

I'll be doing some touring with my dad this summer so need something for 2 people. It weighs in at under 3 kg so not super light but has a huge porch area

  • theyre all good really , even the wild country are same designs as the original Terra novas, so unless youre going to spend some serious time in them should be fine.
the weight thing is an issue for exped, event people. If youre walking hols, split the stuff up between yous, add some alpkit stuff and bobs your Uncle.

  • @kvhe - I just came across this thread and your blog, awesome pictures too. I would love to do something like that. Just one question there is a picture of your feet in the air, did you parachute into Austria?

  • The terra novas on this site seem fairly bargaineous

    I ended up buying this:

£145 and 2.4kg packed. Also fits perfectly in panniers.

  • Anyone got one of these, the terra nova Aspect 2? Considering one at the moment. Light and simple and you can turn the door into a big porch too.

  • One of the criteria i totally missed when buying a tent was how easy it is to pee out of - haha!

Wide mouth nalgene bottle's are useful for those calls of nature in the middle of the night

  • Ive got a Wild Country Duolite and its done me well although likley to be a bit more cosy if youre sharing it with someone other than a 'dearly beloved'

  • good stuff, same here, 2 man lightweights are for your best mates and sweeties only....
my new 2nd hand mtn equip transverse ridge is going well this summer, 1.5 k, wispa tent.

  • I have got a Jack Wolfskin gossamer one man job, basically 2 hoops and you climb inside- big enough for a 6ft 3' me and a pack, real lightweight with a good case and carry handle.

Got it second hand so cant comment on price- my mate has borrowed it for a cycling trip to Morocco at the mo!

    +1

I've got the same and it's really good. 1.5kgs, so easily light enought to carry on a bike, and well waterproof enough for British/European climates. Other good points include being able to roll back the flysheet on clear nights, so you're essentially covered by a mosquito net, and it's colour, which makes it pretty inconspicuous when camping on the sly. Plus, not wanting to condone brand loyality, Jack Wolfskin sounds well tough.

  • With regards to the Aspect 2 tent that I posted above, I have just found this review of it, a full 5 out of 5 stars. Also you can get them a lot cheaper than £150.
Needless to say I invested in one. The large awning swung it for me.

That review seems spot on. I just had a go at pitching mine and it took under 5 minutes, very very easy. Looking forward to testing it out touring. Just over 2kg so its nice and light too.

  • Looking at cheapish light tents and saw these in argos of all places. I've had goof experiences with coleman tents and was thinking about the bedrock one as a cheap does what it says on the tin sort of thing, anyone got any experience of that one.
