  • it's got a timeless steel fork.

  • pictures with braklessss because it's cooool....

  • I ride a Langster 2009 ally and thought I'd give this years steel version a test ride... Fucking thing weighs a tonne!

If you want a Langster go for the ally model, it weighs about 30% lighter, is more responsive and quicker. If you're after track geometry at a cheap price, go for the Fuji Track.

I admit the steels look kinda cool, but once someone clocks the 'Langster' decal you're done for (no matter what model).

'done for' in what way like?

  • pictures with braklessss because it's cooool....

Or because it's built as a track bike like the Fuji Track...

Actuallly, nahh it's more fun to rip apart big coporate companies when they give the people what they want!

  • 'done for' in what way like?

Well, I have a love/hate relationship with my Langster. It's a great bike and the people I ride with who seem to really know their shit like it, but it seems to be frowned upon by a lot of fixed riders... I want to build a second bike, really take my time and make something great, but reckon that I'd keep the Langster even then.

  • Langsters were the first really common OTP fixie skidder device. Of course they were hated.

They're great though. And remember, hippy is always right.

Can't say I follow the logic there. Is it Tit's First Law or summat?

  • 'Logic' involved in skidder bike choice? I think that's where you went wrong.

  • I hear that it used to be quite popular to decorate Langsters.

  • Who would do such a thing?!

  • Counterfeiters.

  • Murtle?

  • hippy is always right.

    .

  • [*]Reynolds 520 steel tubing gives this frame a classic look and that signature steel feel

Nothing says classic like "made under license in Taiwan" (which is what 520 is, by Reynolds' own admission) and TIGed. That said, I've never heard a bad word said about it - perfectly decent chromoly tubing.

  • I was hoping Hippy would put those shots up. How much for a W.A.C finish on my frame?

  • firstly: yes, i know... kinda hipster bike.

i thought about selling it, but then i thought about some mods/upgrades and see how it works then. apart from those eagle stickers i still like it's geometry, so i thought about keeping the frame and add some stuff.

i don't like that alex rims (700x23c) and want to replace those first. problem is: i am a hipster and no mechanic, so i have no idea if something like a 32h will fit the frame (and i don't have one handy to try). no idea what it's called in english, but i mean the space between the chain stay and bottom bracket.

anyone can tell me what would be the maximum wheel/rim size by looking at it's geometry here: http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?arc=2008&spid=32823&menuItemId=0
    ?

i have the 56 but i guess it makes no difference.

    cheers

  • 32H = 32 holes in the rim / 32 spokes. 700C is the rim size (not actually 700mm in diameter though). 23C means a 23mm wide tyre that fits a 700C rim.

Changing the rims to a different 700C model won't make the overall wheel diameter any larger unless you use a wider rim and wider tyres - e.g. 28C, 35C etc.

I would think you could fit a 28C tyre ok on a Langster but not much more than that.

You don't want to change to a larger or smaller rim size as the frame geometry is specifically designed around 700C. Larger and they won't fit, smaller and it'll look like a clown bike, the brakes won't reach the rims and your pedals will hit the ground.

  • "it'll look like a clown bike, the brakes won't reach the rims and your pedals will hit the ground"

Although I'm sure that's not stopped some people trying ;-)

  • sorry, just meant the width of course :)

28c doesn't sound like my every-day-rainy-urban-bad-road wheel... so i guess i'm going to sale a langster soon...

  • ^ what does that mean?

anywhere inbetween 23-28c is fine for london. Lots of ppl on here run 28c vittoria randoners. I use* 25c maxxis refuse.

*actually I don't because I still haven't got around to putting them on my new wheels.

EDIT: oh and for what its work the boston looks pretty good imo

  • well, compared to the days i was riding bmx 23c feels like breaking everytime when i jump a curb ;)

that's what i said, i still like the frame (stickers removed) but not the components.

maybe it the tyres then, but somehow when it rains the bike it sooo slippery

  • Shit grip? Sounds like shit tyres - search for the tyres list thread.

i don't jump kerbs and i don't 'thrash' my bike. I know everyone's gushing over huge tyres at the mo, but i think its just a bit like the craze for bulletproof 36h wheelsets - ott for 99%.

imo 25c is the perfect balance between speed and comfort. I love the refuse, bc of the grip and puncture resistance (but thats just my preference). If you like a bigger tyre go for 28c. I think randos can go to a high pressure. Search and you'll find out.
