  • Did anyone else witness the mad overtake? Somewhere round Reigate I think. I think it was a taxi that decided to overtake a car that was overtaking us. It drove clean up onto the pavement which could only have been just about wide enough to fit and flew down it at 30-40 mph. Not as if the roads were busy, stunning level of impatience, you almost have to respect such bad decision making, almost.

yeah i saw that as we come down the one-way system reigate..thought i was seeing things or i was in some movie thankfully he got through without causing injury. I think his taxi took a beating though! Fucking dick.

Good ride guys! I'm a little red from passing out on the beach. I'm a little tired today too. Thanks Oliver & Damo & other backstop who is moving to back the midlands(sorry i've forgotten your name).

    Good times!

  • Thanks to Oliver and everyone else for making this an incredible ride. My first forum ride and definately not my last.
And thanks to Crispin for the spoke card, that was sick.

No real downers for me, took longer than I thought but in hindsight that proabably made it better. Just wish I'd spoken to more poeple.

    Suhhweet.

  • also: Massive thanks to dropout and moth, they were helping me through the backstop duties and helped ensure it ran as smoothly as it did.

  • not as interesting but the orange looks good on camera :)

  • Sooo...ummm...is this gonna happen again? I'm just straight up pure jealous of you guys. I want a go! :(

  • There's one on 18 July, but it's a daytime ride. I would definitely do a night one again, but would hesitate to be responsible for the map reading.

  • I missed their response to the request for a skid..

as usual, my request was ignored

  • I have also just noticed that the barrier keeping you from falling onto the beach at brighton is Bianchi celeste..

let's see..if in a few days Oliver will be so generous to put down a new date...even because he said that starting at 10pm would be better, and i belive so.

A glimpse of farmer crispin glover there in shot 4 - grass in mouth, leaning on his fence surveying his land...

I am in like Flynn if there is another one of these. 10pm start = win.

  • I think I was drooling over the Bianchi

  • Thanks to all for your kind words. It means a lot and I'm really happy you enjoyed it as much as I did!

As for another ride, if I were to organise it that would have to happen in July or late August, as I'm going on holiday in the first half of August.

July: This week-end it's the Dunwich Dynamo, Corny is doing his (daytime but still clashing) rides on the 11th and the 18th, I can't do the 25th, and the 1st August is EHBPC, so the calendar is already very full then. I suppose I got lucky with plonking this ride in so early, and the only mildly clashing event was the Attack of the 50 Fixed Women ride (which meant that apart from Esther there were no women on the ride). So, unfortunately, July isn't really a possibility, at least for me.

August: Some of the dates in August have already been taken, and I don't have too clear an idea just yet what's happening then. I'm returning only on the 18th of August and perhaps the 29th August would be a possibility (the Bridges ride is on the 22nd). So, I'm afraid that is a long wait just as far as the forum calendar is concerned.

However, if someone else wanted to organise an earlier ride, I'd of course be more than happy to help them in any way I can.

Let me know what you think of the 29th August, anyway, and I'll start a thread if everybody thinks that's good.

    Fuzzy but beautiful!

I didn't hear about that on the ride, but yes, the Reigate one-way system is a bit of a low point on the ride. Glad nothing else happened there.

They've filled in some of the dangerous potholes but left other completely untreated, so you still have to be pretty careful when coming off the speed buzz down Reigate Hill. When I recced that part of the ride, I decided to always stop the ride on coming into Reigate, just so everybody could regain their focus and come out of the blur of descending at speed. Also, moving into the one-way system as a group definitely makes movement through it easier.

  • the 29th August sounds good for me...

can you just continue on this tread without start a new one? I'm romantic

We all look completely shell shocked at how steep DB was!

Oh, and I forgot to mention: If anyone can't wait for so long, the Friday Night Rides to the Coast are highly recommended. I stole the Brighton route from Simon Legg, the organiser of the FNRttCs. They go to different destinations but do Brighton a couple of times a year. If you thought I'm organised, you haven't seen them!

There's one to Brighton this Friday (yes, just before the DD). You have to register with Simon in advance, but I don't actually know where the details for this one are. Perhaps someone else knows?

I won't be doing this one, as I'll be resting up for the DD.

Would love to do that ride again but can't do the 29th as we're holidaying the morning of the 30th. I might have to wait until next year!

  • Can we see the flickr page for this so that we can tag it with names - It might make it easier to remember who was who :)

That's a very good idea. Apologies to those whom I didn't get a chance to speak to and to those whose names I forgot even after having been told them. I put it down to that forum name/real name dichotomy. I tend to remember at least one of them but then I often fail to remember the other!

  • @olliver i'm still stuffing my face with fooooood, just made pancakes :P

Keep up the fgood work, sir.

  • 8) That beautiful old Ferrari that passed us at the top of Ditchling (sorry Oliver).

I was being ironic (car thread in-joke). o;)

  • THANKS EVERYONE! Esther and I got home nice and safe and slept through most of Sunday. Twast nice. Thank you everyone for being so nice and forthcoming with us. We really appreciated it a lot being all foreign and all. Sorry my legs gave out on me! Esther and I had a very fine time and we hope to see you again. If ANY of you ever come to Los Angeles hit us up with a note and we'll give you a warm welcome. Thanks again!

It was great to meet you, Daniel. Full marks for determination and riding so far while jet-lagged!

  • I like both your videos, Marlon--Slugwash Lane is beautiful in it, too.

  • when coming off the speed buzz

    Are you encouraging doping?
