This ride waits for everyone, so don't be shy about joining in even if you're slow. Night riding is to be enjoyed and savoured, not rushed through. That's how we'll roll.
...
This is only about 50-60 miles, so don't worry too much about distance.I have taken Oliver's invitation at face value but I just wanted to check that I won't be the only slow rider going - as I wouldn't want to hold everybody up. After doing a few trips to Richmond Park the past few weeks, I realise speed is not my strong point. Haven't ever ridden 50-60miles, most i've done is about 35 miles - that said I am confident that i could do 60 miles.
Basically I am really keen to do this ride, however if everyone else is a seasoned clubby happy to let you guys go without me.

DirtyD, the resolution to wait stands.
Night riding is for savouring, not tearing along, anyway!
-
• #204
sweet - see you at HPC!
-
• #205
to DirtyD: I second what Oliver said - my first time ever on a track bike was a forum night ride. I had a great time and there were actually a few distinguished forumengers that were slower than me back then.
I am really excited about this one - see you on Saturday!!!

because I have the best manager in the world* i have the day off friday, saturday, sunday!!!! which means im coming to brighton!!!!
really looking forward to this.
need to get a decent set of cat eyes now.
also what sort of GI's are people using im thinking 69 with 82 on the flipside?
- who actually owns the most gorgeous Hetchins. black and gold with a full record groupset. which he says was origionally built for Van Morrison's drummer in the 80's (he also informs me of a 50's chromed hetchins which i may be able to get my hands on IN MY SIZE)

yeah, blind cats are no good.
i am gonna use 42:16 with 165 cranks which is around 69. have done l2b on this before and it works for me. not sure i will make it up db and i do need the front brake on a few descents... will be especially true in the dark!
are you really gonna stop and flip your wheel though??? pain in the ass. i would probably rather have freewheel on the other side if i had anything
-
• #211
i'm very tempted to do this.
@ oliver - what time are you aiming to be back in london?I'll probably be doing it there and back, so I don't really know yet. Do you want to go there and back, too? If not, trains run every fifteen minutes from Brighton, starting very early, so that you can pretty much choose when you want to be back.
There's a cafe in Brighton that we can take over for breakfast--from memory, I think it opens at 7.

Sounds good!

Most fixed people will be running around 70, so I'd stick with 69. We won't be going fast, and it's very unlikely that you'll need the 82 anywhere. It would be too much faff to flip the wheel over, surely?

Haha, you'll be absolutely fine, Marco. This is an easy route and it's meant to be a fun ride! Not a challenge for you in any way, except for Ditchling Beacon at the end, which is a challenge for most people.

massive favour alert:
http://www.londonfgss.com/thread24514.html#post779069my fluoro/nodder/waterproof jacket done broke up. has anyone got a spare (size small) i could borrow? just in case. the only thing i have in waterproof is a combat jacket that's too big and makes me sweat like a twat.

Was thinking of pulling out of this, but reading the last couple of pages has me psyched! I'll be on 68GI (I think), fixed with front brake. Assuming the route is similar to last weekend's BHF ride, I recommend a brake!
@DirtyD - having ridden from Westies to Highbury with you, I don't think you need worry about being slow. If anything, you'll be in Brighton when we're at Gatwick.
@Damo - I can lend you a fluro Altura Night Vision in small. Perfect for the 'ironic nodder' look.
EDIT: what are the plans for food stops? So I can decide what to bring. ta.

mattty - perfect!
bring it along!ta!
Yes, if at some point you intend to leave the group and stop somewhere on your own where you leave the bike unattended.
No--otherwise.
