  • I've only just heard about this death yesterday. It's a hit-and-run. Info from Greenwich Cyclists.

Police were called on Friday evening May 15 to the junction of Woolwich Road and the Kent-bound A102(M) in Greenwich following a collision between a lorry and a female pedal cyclist, a police spokesman said.

London Ambulance Service attended. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Police had not yet been able to establish her identity.

The lorry did not stop at the scene. It is described as having blue material (e.g. canvas, or plastic sheeting) on its side. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information that may assist police should call the Collision Investigation Unit at Catford Traffic Garage on 020 8285 1574.

Greenwich Cyclists have placed a white bike and flowers at the scene.
    Distressing news.

  • This is really sad. I hope there's CCTV footage out there and a big company name on the side of that lorry...

  • Distressing news indeed. RIP.

Judging by the info you've provided Oliver I'm guessing there's not exactly a solid witness?

  • Terrible news. And made all the more terrible by the fact that the lorry drove on.

  • Distressing news indeed. RIP.

It looks that way, hence the appeal for witnesses. But apparently there are cameras at the junction, and there is of course an outside chance that the driver may come forward him/herself.

  • (there seems to be more and more hit and run).

    seemed being the operative word.

  • :( rip

  • Horrible news.

  • Terrible news. RIP.

  • I have the names and email addresses of the two main producers at BBC London, via a friend in tv journalism from another area in the UK. If anyone following these rider down threads is interested, PM me with your email address and I can pass them on.

From the friend: "Best way to pitch it is to suggest something visual to them – to accompany you on some sort of event, or route or something – with telly it's all about pictures."

  • sugar, only saw the aftermath of this as I drove past in the opposite direction, it was well up the slipway so no idea what a cyclist would be doing there.

Terrible that the lorry driver didn't stop too.

Either way my thoughts go to those she knew and loved and who will miss her.

  • this is just awful news.
RIP and best wishes to the family and friends.
I can never express the sadness and anger I feel whenever one of these threads comes up.

  • Horrible to hear. Rest In Peace.
