  • Agree with bogey, contact like that in any sport would have resulted in the offender picking his teeth up from around the court, what is the point??

The chap fouled didn't really care so maybe that is how they roll

  • if you want to let the guy and the other american players know what you think comment here:

  • I said before, I'd not seen it... and I have now... that wouldn't have been allowed in any game I've ever been part of.

But if you were playing in games where that had become acceptable norm, and it's up to the goalie to push back as hard as he's pushed, then it stops being dickish and becomes just another tactic...

  • There isn't a "goalie" in bike polo is there? Just people that decide to occupy the goal space, they have no special rights and priveledges... Unlike football/ice hocky (your two examples) if you change the word goalie for player and change hocky for american football or rugby, the answer becomes yes?

khornight, a fundamental point i'd totally missed, i'll take that on the chin.

regardless however, in ice hockey, you shove someone without the ball you get a foul called. it's just particularly bad taste to do it to a defender rather than an offender, if you get my drift.

im with you khor; we have all sorts of styles here in cambridge inc. pussy games and hard core games, i like both pussy and hard core. but there's something about the inane way that guy pushed the other guy off his bike just to get ahead that has riled my feathers. no "sportsman" would do that.

You guys all hit it on the head. Regardless if it was done to a 'goalie' or not, if anybody straight up shoves somebody (or attempts to) off their bike in that way it's a foul. It really doesn't matter if it's on or off the ball. That action is just not on, as I've already copied and pasted...

  • this thread makes me sad.

  • Awww Gabes. Here's a sexy horse to cheer you up.

  • File > Print, and straight to the "Hi's".

  • Haha!!

  • enough in-jokes, boys.

  • Haha, Gabes you suck.

  • not as much as you.

  • I hope that's not an in-joke...

  • yes, it's at your expense too.

  • Sheep!

  • Goose!

  • Stoat!

  • I'd rather we didn't take ice hockey as our fair play benchmark!
    YouTube - Unbelievable Hockey Fight

Ice hockey is just f'in stupid. The fighting is pretty much expected and allowed in every game. The usual penalty is just to sit out for a couple min and then right back in. I watched a game once where the goalie accidently had his throat slit with a skate once. That was pretty brutal.

  • mmm blood lollies.

  • Note, I've been shoved off my bike once (in polo obviously...) ... in the back no less!

If that had been filmed I wonder at the uproar it would have caused on internet forums?

At the time the game stopped, I bitched a little about my elbow and made a few sarcastic remarks to the offender. But looking back, I think it's pretty funny, the game had gotten pretty dirty and it wasn't the worst thing in the world (not even in that game!) and consider the offender one of the nicest guys that I've met through polo!

When it comes down to it, I think the DBAD rule works when it's a bunch of mates messing about... having throwins... (which I assume this video was taken at) but doesn't work at all in a competative/tourney type situation.

  • This vid was from the ESPI 4 in Boston recently. Highly competitive games. The offender's team won the NACCC last year which up until this year was considered the official North American championships.

  • good spot, not like on like contact but less offensive than the clothesline that comes later.

  • No, that's not even like to like.

  • ah aha what a looser he even lost his mallet. Is that the infamous ROBBIE BOARDS?

  • HA!
    *(^&TG^&%F^%IUFUCKING":>:>KJHGO&^&IY-ROBBIEBOARDS-*^&G^&FI/ASS/O&HG(UY)(U)I+

    No, I don't think it's that Robbie.
