I thought they were supposed to be strong as fuck ?
As Track bikes go they're one of the strongest out there....They're also a 3 year old design, and 3yrs ago people weren't riding the way they do now....people are dishing out constant abuse now, and if you look, you'll see Brooklyn forks on quite a few 'tricks' riders bikes.....that doesn't mean they're indestructable though.
They were designed as a regular track bike fork for street and track use.
Joe's history is in making some of the strongest bikes and components on the planet...you only need to see how many of the original TMX's, shinburgers, snot rockets, etc are still being ridden today after some 10yrs of downhill racing to see how strong their stuff is...if he wanted to make a Gangsta fork that could handle the kind of abuse that todays tricks riders are dishing out it wouldn't be too hard. -

I love my BMW gangsta and Tokyo FG seem to be selling them for a good price.
They are one of the best track bikes out there, the build quality is superb and quite a lot of the tubes are profiled and not just round. They are pretty strong and resistant to dings and dents as well. Mine is over a year old and looks as good now as the day it came out the factory.
Any bike will obviously break if you mistreat it, or crash it nothing is indestructable but I'd bet on the BMW being stronger than anything else.

After two years of constant use both in the city and up to 120 mile+ rides i reckon i'm in a better position to give an honest opinion than you after your month.
Brooklyn machine works didn't invent their rep....they earned it...through making some of the best and most influential products in the bike industry.
Shimano didn't invent v-brakes, BMW did...the race link remains one of the best downhill frames ever made...the gangsta has had countless imitators.I'm blinded by nothing...but i know what makes a good bike...and my brooklyn will outlast any langster.
I couldn't agree more.
And buying a Brooklyn, is not just buying a frame, its buying into a whole community of like-minded people.
Further more, i have never come accross a company owned and run by such a nice group of people, who want to do nothing but help you all they can, come off it, after one phone call, i was invited to the factory, and also offered a place to stay for the week!
All in all, you do pay for what you get, and i would have absolutely no problem spunk 700 on a frame, I've got 2 Park bikes, and they are without a doubt the best jump frame i've ridden!

FWIW, I got those allen keys for £18

@ debate over BMW being to expensive, yes it is in house and they do innovative shit and have for years and no it ain't charge or whatever so if you want it, the look etc, you'll pay for it cause no on elese is making shit that bespoke, for that type of riding. Personally it ain't me but wtf right.
Funny how every man and his dog wants the scene and the tricks and the little bits of individuality that are copied and mixed from other area's of cycling (which negates it being original) but fuck, someone design something that costs money and doesn't look like it should....
people slide into mediocrity real easy these days, and i ain't judging that on the price you pay for your ride, just on how people think about shit, cause that frame would have come from the streets, if ya been to NYC and you know the place and the vibe you know that frame reflects that, not saying it's going to fit in somewhere in italy but thats it's roots.
i got a classic bob jackson cause i want to remember my time in england here through that bike, cause a classic track.road frame is what europe is about - for me.
@ snapping shit, many people have a fixie, a bmx, a road bike, a mountian bike for the one reason that they function well and allow you to enjoy that area of riding. Everything else is JUST TRYING TO RE-INVENT THE WHEEL. You wanna do fakies, wall rides and get air outta shit - get a fucking bmx cause within 1/2 the time of developing skills you'll be getting twice as much air over shit and higher than ya mates and looking at one with the obstacle you are riding
form follows function
as chopper would say "fucking show ponies"
As for tokyo fixed gear, max new i wanted some bits but I really didn't have the budget and actually sourced me some second hand - decent bit of service that!!
Enough of typing on this rant, i am of to the trails to catch a little bit of air and experience some FLOW, the mtb, fixie and road bike will be staying at home

*"the race link remains one of the best downhill frames ever made"
with a long list of frames ahead of it in the queue. like orange, intense and iron horse to name a few. has a BMW ever won a world championship/cup? they are not the only manufacturer to have ideas about chain growth/pivot position and axle path, todays downhill bikes are lighter and faster and dare i say it better.
nice bikes and i like some of the thinking behind them but i wouldn't hold them in the same esteem as others, but then i don't know the owner. :-)

Now lets look at the quantity of orange and intense frames out there compared to race links....and more to the point the number of broken ones.
A perfect example is Mark Weightman...he broke at least 15 frames before he got his brooklyn...including several intense frames...he then proceeded to win the european downhill championships on his 57lb TMX ahead of ALL the oranges and intenses.
How many world cup/championships have ever been won by a non sponsored rider?...and brooklyn can't afford to sponsor.
Lighter isn't better if they break more often...and a lot of privateers can't afford to replace them often...i know Mark sure got sick of it. -

i always think the gangster looks better in the flesh, clearly made to be a strong workhorse
they definitely have a utilitarian appeal

they're 25.4 but should be fine in most 26mm clamps...nittos are 25.4 too and work fine.
I just checked out the lino drops today....fucking beautiful shape...getting the silver ones for the slo-pro. -

It creaks like a cunt but it's done that since new. I'd be surprised if I was able to break it, having said that, it would surprise me to break any bike. I float over trails like my tyres are full of helium ; )

what does it creak?! linkage?

I love BMW stuff, they do things differently and like to try new things out. Never really liked the Gangsta but think I'm more coming round to it, definately reckon its the fixed wheel bike for doing tricks though.
One of the guys who helped design the race link has started his own bike company, his downhill frame looks like the race link but it alot lighter, reckon this will be very interesting when it is released properly. Thinks it super co. or something

The Gangsta's main strength is that it's an awesome all rounder...yeah it's good for tricks...but it's an amazing everyday bike...and i did the dunwich dynamo on mine too without any complaints.
Regarding Superco....it was started by Chris Boudreaux aka 'Doc'...he was Joes partner at BMW....he's a great designer, but he wanted the company to be more downhill bike based...he was never keen on diversifying into things like the gangsta...or in expanding the company in the direction Joe wanted to...but the company just wouldn't have survived the way they were going...so they went their seperate ways when Pharell helped out BMW financially and Doc set up superco...although after a couple of years he's still yet to release his suspension frame...i'm looking forward to seeing it though....i think it's gonna be different to his 'lighter racelink' that's been knocking around.
I wish him the best of luck though. In that time Joe has designed about 6 completely new bikes and has turned the company around from a struggling 2 man company to a successful business which has a great reputation and makes some great products.
Viva la Brooklyn! -

There is a place for warehouse-cheap bike stuff, and a place for boutique-expensive stuff (E1 probably).
Sometimes products will cross over and prices will be different. It's all fine if your eyes are open.
Ed, i'm about to jump on my bike, come find you and smack you in the head. Re-read my post.
I think i saw...
I thought they were supposed to be strong as fuck ?
My whole post was posed in question format, not a statement.
Back the fuck up, i'm drunk and looking for trouble!
