Has anyone made a wall mounted magnetic knife holder?
If so how did you choose your magnets?

Bisbell Magnets.

I haven't (yet!) but I did buy all the bits years ago...
OMFG I just looked up the email and I bought the magnets in 2015, I am a useless cunt. It was these... 20mm dia x 3mm thick N35 Neodymium Magnet - 3.6kg Pull ( Pack of 10 )
I've still got them, and the wood, and the wall fixings, and the modified Forstner drill bit to make the holes. I just never, you know how it is, finished it.

modified Forstner
Modified how? Taking the tip off?

Yarp, so you can set the magnet as deep as possible without the tip going through the face.

Also don't feel bad about project drift. I bought my knife handle kit in 2018 and still haven't finished it.

I don't feel so bad now, with my 2020 vintage magnets, walnut block and keyhole router bit.

This feels like a jinxed project.
However, we do really need a better handing system for some of our utensils, and I thought if I used some leftover flooring to made a board with one section of magnets, then I could get neat screw hooks that would be stronger than the stick-on ones we've got.

Excuse to buy a router ;)

I’m actually in the process of selling my router and pillar drill!
Bugger it, I see this as a kick up the bum - I’ll try to get these finished this week, I have enough oak and magnets to make four so watch this space. -

I think it’s fair to say this oak is well seasoned.

It’s an old dead stock Sabatier bread knife I picked up a while ago, the fact it’s so deep means it cuts a really straight slice.

And well done on completion. Do you have a pic of the back? And also how thick is the layer of wood between the magnet and knife?

Cheers, I treat them terribly, most are stained to fuck other than the yanagiba which lives in its box. Thought I’d delve into my emails and photos to remember what I’ve actually got…

I need to get a razor sharp carbon steel knife that I get anxious about keeping in top condition.
Then leave in the sink overnight by accident to find it rusted to the sink…
Ahh but that (the barebones) is the creme of allotment slashers. I got my brother one for his allotment to slash back brambles etc and it’s so lovely. A great weight on the handle and if kept sharp, proper effective. I’m a tiny bit jelly :)
